squirrelfriend

rowlet is the best looking to me but i might have to choose popplio just because it will have the best typing lol

Samus Aran

part of the reason i often choose the fire type starter is because tbh there are often no good fire types to catch for most of the game. idk why but every gen does this. serious lack of catchable fires before late game

squirrelfriend

the only times I chose a fire starter was my simultaneous run in Pokemon silver when I chose totodile in Pokemon gold as well
and when I chose fennekin this gen because it didn't evolve into yet another fire/fighting final evo

Lance Corporal Atlas

best hope is to pray for some split evo gimmick

I usually tend to pick and prefer fire starters, but I disliked Tepig. Fire is just such a good type for a lot of trainers you run into during the story.

I'm still a little undecided on my starter choice for Sun/Moon. They all look fairly nice.

Kanto and Johto have nothing but Flareon until late-game
Hoenn has Numel and Slugma
Sinnoh has only Ponyta (and more in Platinum)
Unova has Pansear, Darumaka, and Litwick (also BW had a Victini mystery gift at launch)
Kalos has Fletchinder, Litleo, and Pansear

There's a few, but the options are very limited. Kanto put all the fire-types on Cinnabar and Johto put them all (even the new ones) in Kanto. Hoenn and Unova threw a few near the 4th gym. Sinnoh kicked them all out of the regional dex entirely (poor Flint).

It doesn't help that like half of all fire-types are either starters or legendaries.

In both Kanto and Johto you can catch Growlithe and Vulpix around midgame. Routes 7 and 8 have them in Kanto (you can get them right after Rock Tunnel before Celadon and your 4th gym badge). In Johto Route 36 has them meaning you can get them by the time you get to Goldenrod (3rd Gym) or even as soon as you get to Violet Town (first gym) in Crystal. Granted, you couldn't get a fire stone until you got to Bill's house in Celadon in the original Gold and Silver so you were stuck with the base forms... couldn't even evolve Eevee into anything but Umbreon or Espeon.

But yeah they make fire pokemon too far and in between really. I remember disliking Gen IV especially because Chimchar was basically a Torchic repeat and the only other option was Ponyta

I forgot Johto had such a terrible lack of fire stones, but I also forgot they had Growlithe/Vulpix. It's strange that G/S put Slugma, Houndour, and a lot of other new "Johto" Pokémon exclusively in Kanto. Sinnoh's D/P fire shortage is definitely the worst, with nowhere near enough for the Elite Four member even when including a starter which no other Elite Four member has ever done.

Thankfully, they've been improving stuff like that with Unova and Kalos. I really like how Kalos in particular has such a wide variety of Pokémon throughout the entire game.

Yeah it has been much better. I'm already encouraged by the number of ghost types revealed, a type with one of the lowest total number of pokemon.

Yeah I was always sad that houndour  came so late. Really with dark types as a whole,  unless you got umbreon you had to wait until Kanto which is strange given it was a new type and you'd figure an undiscovered type would exist on the new continent rather than the one you explored in the previous game

Hyper

So keen for that fighting dragon

[spoiler=to those that want the ride to end]well, it's confirmed by leaks

my assumption was correct- the leaks of the final starter evos were real

it's because japan had the demo out early so now people are datamining it

gamefreak didn't learn from the oras datamining- because they literally had all new pokemon files and etc in the demo lol

also there are abominations to be had
