i took a couple minutes of hacking away at his talons and running wildly when he would use his fire breath, but i managed

nice. that is pretty much the safest method. i didn't bother on my playthrough, nor did i do darklurker yet, but i may do both when i come back to the game at some point, before starting ng+.

ancient dragon can be an intimidating fight though because his fire breath is seriously like a one-hit kill lol

i equipped all of my my most flame-retardant armor (hexer set) and the flame quartz ring +2 and that was enough to just barely make it a two-hit kill lol

imo, what makes darklurker even worse is that when you die, you have to trudge through one of the abysses again to fight it again
