Well lately I have been hanging with a lot of Travellers (Tramps). I met one guy who is from Ontario and actually has been as far as mexico from hitchhiking. I plan on travelling this way this summer from Saskatchewan to BC. A lot of my close friends dot his every summer and it is incredible they say... I am planning on doing this now that I am 18. I know there are many risks but I just want to live for once. Everyday I see the same environments and scenery and I need to escape. I want to be free.
Would you ever do this if you had the chance?
A group of my good friends went on an excursion out west in a crummy van a few summers ago.
It was the greatest week and a half of my life.

I'd never hitchhike, because I've had too many bad experiences, but I'd love to travel cross-country, either by or by car. Preferably bike, so that I could also camp the whole way. I guess I could just park the car somewhere and camp.

My good friend cody is planning on biking from saskatchewan to Halifax Nova Scotia this summer. I'd be to much a wimp to do that though.
Yupp, in fact I'm going with you.
I'll probably do that around Europe when I'm 18.
A reddit thread from 2 days ago inspired me.

Yes we will be picking fruits and getting hammered. Then go to the coast. Then the great festival called Shambhala. With many bumps along the way.

Ah man, it's going to be so good. I can't bloody wait, I really can't.
We can finally release ourselves from this hell of a city and leave all that shit behind us for a few months.
How can you people detach yourselves from social responsibilities for a few months? I'd be a wanted man.

Freedom, getting the fuck out of this town. I'm 18 now I just need to get away.

What social responsibilities? When you no longer are in school, and have a job you can quit, or don't even have a job... You can really do anything...
I'm going with OP actually, well, I plan to.. It all depends on how things go this year with my life...
We always got friends to tag along with us, bring the important people and forget the rest.

Quite a few. I'm just from a different tribe that's all.
Don't get me wrong, I fully support the idea. In fact, I've got a good mind to do a solo visit to a few long lost relatives in a far away continent myself.
I've been playing around with the idea...I dunno, my birthday is in a few months and I'll have a whole summer stretched out before me. A roadtrip would be wonderful, but I don't drive.
I would like to really experience something, in some way. I'd like to bring the Tascam and a mic or two and just...record things. Make crazy fucking music. Find weed. Hang out.

1 in 10 men get raped.
dont become a statistic.

I was thinking of doing a tour of the areas of various boyagers. It was really fun making that detour in Michigan to see Veal, I felt alive in just breaking a regimented plan and seizing an opportunity.
Either way, I wouldn't want to go on this trip without a rather large knife. I figure: food /water, recording stuff, and clothing will be enough for me.

Actually, statistic is 1 in 4 men suffer some form of sexual abuse in their lifetime
1 / 3 for women.
well idk if the statistic has rised in the past 3 years.

Abuse and rape are terms not well understood by certain researchers, and many things which are sexual abuse do not fall under the typical category of rape, as viewed by the public.
Speaking of which, if I made this trip, I would have to make sure how to not be killed.
Well, Alex and I are two pretty tough cookies, and I'm a black out, and.. Well, if anybody tried raping me, it wouldn't be pretty... For them.

You could die right now silly. Your best bet is a sound mind and a guarded disposition. If you have to result to firsts, knife, or gun, you've already terribly messed up somewhere along the way.
sexual abuse and rape of men is under reported and ridiculed by society

Picking up a hitchhiker is on my to-do list, but not actually going hitchhiking. WHERE THE FUCK COULD I POSSIBLY HITCHHIKE TO IN AUSTRALIA?!

That's true, to a certain finite extent. But not all situations can be predicted, not everything can be forsaw. The whole "you have the same chance of being murdered as rolling a 20 on a 20 sided die" kinda worries me.
I sometimes roll mine a few times and see how quickly I get a 20.
Edit: I just rolled it again. 20 on the first roll. Fuck.

Highlight of the trip?
We had some great experiences, but my favorite was one night in particular.
We decided to splurge and rent a more expensive campsite which was actually only a few miles outside of yellowstone.
It was on this rather large hill and we could see for miles and miles. These rolling green hills were surrounded by mountains, something that absolutely blew my mind, me being a wisconsinite who had never seen anything like that in my life.
Anyhow, we broke out the instruments and completely melted under the setting sun around a campfire.
It was the most content I've ever been, surrounded by my favorite people and some of the most beautiful scenery.
All my friends want to do is play video games all day. I'm currently in the process of trying to get them to go to the football game on Friday and only two are going, and that's all of their own volition. The others want to play CoD.
tl;dr I miss my cool friends, and I wish I hung out with them more before we broke up ;_;
Oh yeah, I also toyed with the idea of going to Burning Man, out in Nevada. Maybe even bring a friend along who informed me about it. But then again, I'm not into the whole "participation in the community" thing they have going on. I'd like to go if I could just observe all the stuff going on.
you know, if i was single and wasn't in college, and still simply wanted to write for a living, i'd highly consider just ditching town and going wherever the fuck cash will allow me to. i'm not sure i'd want to hitchhike because of how dangerous it can be to either
a.) get picked up by someone who's nuts
b.) not get picked up for a really long time
but still, it sounds riveting to just, you know, drop everything and have an experience

i likely would not have read it either, but it was assigned this semester for my fiction class. pretty solid. but it is no catcher in the rye, for comparison.
I thought about hitchhiking to California once.
Then I realized I was too shy for that and I would just make for very awkward car rides with strangers. ;___;

I'd love to hitch-hike, it'd be a great experience. I don't understand why people are so afraid of it. A lot of people are even afraid to ride greyhounds, which makes a lot less sense.

Well, there was that one nut who beheaded that dude on the Greyhound... But still, I don't think it's anything to make anybody stop riding a Greyhound. People can expect stuff like that to happen all the time, I'm sure lots had feared it beforehand, and now that it did happen they won't go on. It's the same fear, but you have heard of somebody doing it. It's stupid.
Somebody died in a shower once, so I will never clean my body again.
i've ridden greyhounds to and from texas twice now and i'm doing it again this december lol

I wish I had the money to take a bus out of here.
Apparently I am getting kicked out of my house again or some crap, and I've really almost lost everybody who was remotely close to me in this city. A greyhound ride would be more than spectacular right now.

showers usually don't have numerous factors against you, like crazy killers or animals or drunk drivers or rapists.

Or make sure you cut them real good so they don't suffer?
Or just... Don't hitch-hike.
