there are a lot of things i could complain about (and have done so endlessly) when it comes to 2, but at the end of the day it's still a fucking great game and you should really play it

they brought back the death penalty? gonk;

p.s. i haven't played 2

3's is honestly a pretty negligible penalty. it's basically a light version of the demon's souls penalty. the hp difference between kindled vs unkindled is much less harsh.

however, it's also balanced better than dark souls 1 humanity. stacking humanity in 1 just makes you stronger and stronger, and it's way too easy to do so with how often you pick up humanities. and when you recover your souls, you recover all those soft humanities as well. plus they heal you if you use them.

on the other hand, you can only be kindled or unkindled in 3. if you're already kindled, you can't use an ember, it does nothing. it can't even heal you. so while you could theoretically use it while at low health and unkindled to both heal yourself and raise your max hp, it's a one-time thing.

so kindling is a less versatile system than humanity, but it's better balanced.

i didn't really like 2's system tbh. i think they found a happy medium with 3.

Nyerp

tbh you can just skip 2 and go straight to 3 and miss virtually nothing

I still don't see 1 as very forgiving.

Only 2 & 3 really

imo the difficulty disparity between 1 and 2 is negligible outside of boss arenas

there's no denying that 2's bosses are easier on average than 1's, but its environments and non-boss enemies are just as hazardous as ds1's are, if not more so

i honestly think the environments in 2 are harsher than 1's.

yeah, i agree

i truly don't understand why ds2 is generally regarded as so much easier than 1 lol

it's only true of ds2's bosses, and even then only arguably

i want to but i'm still like 25% done with DS 1, and I still have literally every other souls game to beat first but currently I'm playing Bloodborne

seems weird to just pick up 3 right now just to participate in this thread  saddood;

we'll happily chat with you in the ds1 and ds2 threads happydood;
