that episode's art direction was very much inspired by the 90s batman cartoon, thus the design of mad pierrot as well as the heavy shading throughout the episode

especially evident in the opening alleyway scene and that first fight between pierrot and spike

i also really like the bizarre mix of Pink Floyd's "On the Run" used in the creepy as fuck backstory montage for the experiments on Pierrot

really it's just one of the best episodes in the series. that show does so many things and so many styles and pulls them off so well

why?

to put it lightly, it's not a normal anime lol

more like a construct of various cyberpunk ideas and stream-of-consciousness in anime form, also some commentary on psychological issues (self-identity, self-worth, dissociative identity disorder, net dependence)

and it's very surreal and artsy-fartsy and vague and while there is a story, i wouldn't say that plot is the show's focus

i mean by all means i hope you enjoy it. it's one of my favorites. but it's definitely not for everyone. n_u

Its awesome

Samus Aran

Finished Noir. 7/10, good show.

Admittedly a bit dull, and never particularly great, but its flaws aren't quite big enough to keep the show from at least being solid. It's worth noting, though, that for the first six or seven episodes nothing really happens in the overall plot and there's way too many flashback scenes repeated over and over. The series is definitely slow-paced and takes a while to gain any steam. Once it gets going, it's definitely good.
