For the longest time, I thought that pretty much everyone learned how to swim at one point, but lately it seems like I know more and more people that can't swim. My stepdad can't, Lawlz can't, ProtectedMember32 can't, Tectron can't...
So I'm curious as to who else can't swim and what the ratio of can:can't is for Boyah. doodella;
I've been recognized. powerofone;
Yes I can swim, it's rather easy.
I sink to the bottom. I don't have to swim. I can just walk.

You sadden me
Yes, not particularly well though.
Never learned how to tread water.
I don't really understand how someone can "not swim," like they'd just drown if they were thrown into water 10 feet from the shore or something
No, I can't swim.
I'm on the high school swim team! doodella;
whoever didn't get swimming lessons when they were four is deprived ;)

Yes. I thought most people did.
Guess people in the Midwest don't have to if there are only fields of wheat. Or if the Mississippi River overflows. doodella;

Kansas is in the Midwest, though... What's your point? doodthing;
I am unable to swim.
I can swim, I took lessons when i was younger but ended up running to my mom crying during the second lesson because i sucked so much.
After that I basically just taught myself.
i float naturally due to my fat...but yeah i can swim seriously...i hate the rotary breathing shit though, it gets water in my ears.

That Kansas isn't the entire midwest. Also, the Mississippi doesn't go through Kansas |:

I was only talking about the Midwest and the Mississippi overflowing parts of it. You brought up this Kansas shit. |:
Back on topic, uh... I'd like to try swimming in the Dead Sea. I wonder how it would be like to not be able to sink at all.
Did I mention that I actually took swimming lessons and still couldn't do it? spam;
duh, im not black

He's just upset that you only mentioned wheat and not corn
Yes.
I can swim, but not very well.
I found this out during the summer. Me and a friend were swimming across a lake, and it turned out I couldn't make it across. It's not that I didn't have enough stamina, I just didn't seem to float well after while, and I panicked. As we were about half way across I called for him to come help me, and the struggle proceeded.
He came to me and tried to grab a limb and pull me, but I was panicking like a bitch and I went under probably about 5 feet and swallowed a shit load of water. The water is about 20 feet by my estimate at this point. I kept grabbing at his limbs, trying to get some sort of feeling of safety. At one point I grabbed his shoulders and pulled myself above water for a short breath of air, then he swam out from under me and left me to figure it out myself.
Turns out I float quite well on my back. I did the back stroke the rest of the way.
Once I got to the other side, my muscles hurt like I've never felt before, and I had the most intense headache I'd ever experienced.
Then while I was driving everyone home some jackass nearly ran me off the road. argh;

I can swim.
Not that you'd need to. You'd just float. giggle;
I speak from experience. :(
Anyway, yeah, I can swim. I just need to put some more effort into it, I'm not as buoyey as I used to be.

I'm pretty good at swimming, too. :3
I have a swimmer's build, I have good speed and decent endurance, my father's a serious swimmer, but I don't go to the pool that often. It's probably the only sport I don't mind doing seriously, too. O_0
the act of swimming is really just controlled flailing so I don't really see why it would even take practice.
lets all go to the beach! powerofone; a boyah beach bash
Quote from: Kaz on September 19, 2008, 10:24:57 AM
lol why
I never go to the pool often enough.
Also, I can't ride a bike, because I never owned one.

im a big loser when it comes to bikes, i feel off and then like wouldnt take the training wheels off until they broke
bike riding is easy baddood;
I can swim, but I have some trouble with keeping water out of my nose when I do so. If something is covering or clamping my nose (and doesn't fall off) I swim fine. Oh and I also can't see underwater without goggles since chlorine water stings my eyes (salt water stings them even more).
I can ride a bike.
I never do either activity much anymore.

I learned how to swim when I was 13 or 14. Before that, I was terrified of water that went over my head.

Can you swim faster than Michael Phelps?
Didn't think so.
I heard somewhere that babies have the natural ability to swim (see Spencer Elden (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1567107/20070814/nirvana.jhtml)), but they lose it as they grow up. It's kind of weird O_0

'Nobody has an inbuilt fear of water.' Really?
Hydrophobia Aquaphobia isn't that uncommon, although maybe it's caused by some sort of trauma rather than a hard-wired fear.
Hell yes. I was on a swim team for years, but I quit so I could focus on my bass playing. I haven't swam seriously in years, but back in the day I could breast stroke like a motherfucker.
I can swim.
And I'm black. Take THAT logic. badass
I can swim.
im not black, so yes
i know this is bad to think but while watching "when the levees broke" i couldnt help but smiling at all of the nigs in new orleans that made everything that much more difficult because they couldnt swim
No. :(
No. :(
Yes, I swim for my highschool swim team and a summer league swim team.
It's only like half as gay as it sounds
One of my friends actually used to swim with Michael Phelps at a club in Maryland... My friend went on to become the state champion of Pennsylvania
A 13 year old girl at my summer league club went to the Olympic trials..
