PBRB (Proposal of Board Revitalization of Boyah) 2012

Ok, here is my grand proposal. I really think we'd benefit from a little shakeup of the boards -- no huge changes, just some renaming, reordering, and maybe even a new board or two if we can think of any good ideas.

Throwdown Showdown
IRL Land - Current events, photos, sex, sports, parties, drugs, health, clothes and anything else going on in your life outside of Boyah, including all your queer plans, problems, and perversions. (This board is not public.)
Anonymous Board
Video Games
The Arts - Discussion of all types of media including music, movies, literature, TV, fine art, and anything else that is relevant.
Philosophy & Scholarly Debate - Discuss matters of religion, ethics, politics, being, and the nature of things. All opinions welcome, but mature and serious discussion required. Flaming, wisecracking, and being a dick are disallowed.
Internet, Science, and Technology - Discuss hardware and software, cool websites, tech questions, and the latest sci/tech news.  
Anime, Manga, and Japanese Shit
The Esoteric & Occult - Pseudoscience, mysticism, conspiracy and fringe theories, aliens, and other lunacy.
Foods, Snacks, and Local Delicacies
The Boyah Market

Some points of discussion

1. Anime as child board of arts, or anime combined with video games, or anime combined into arts, or just leave it?
2. Combine Sports and Sleep/Dreams into IRL Land
3. Serious Discussion --> Philosophy & Scholarly Debate, with some reinstated rules about post content and seriousness
4. DoD Clubhouse --> 100% Quotaists Union
5. Esoteric/occult board good idea or not

We can also discuss NEW ideas for boards.
- what kind of boards could we have that are creative/fun uses of the message board format?
- or just new ideas for general discussion topics that at least most of us might be interested in?
- random ideas just for the sake of brainstorming, I don't necessarily support them at all: Locales/travel. Stream archive board. Deardiary; board. nature/outdoors (lol). youtube board, image board/nsfw board. conspiracy theories/occult/paranormal/fringe/stigmatized knowledge discussion. school/homework/academic board. reviews/recommendations.

Would like to hear everyone's opinion on the above changes, board naming, possible new boards, and anything else. Comments and ideas would be appreciated from: Nyerp, Hippo, felt, dp, snowy, applesauce, boognish, socks, eeeeeee, YPR, livin on da edge, david, thyme, Kaz <3, Tec, Wawi, RAQL, Hiro, C Mongler, Popsi, sequel, travis, wrench, strongbad, Pyrate, steal, wawi, clucky, trevor, hobbit, burzums, and most of all NOT SID.

I like the layout. Hopefully if we actually play by the rules the lobby and IRL land should both be very active. People will just have to adjust to paying close attention to two boards rather than one when in rapid-post mode.

I don't like the ideas you came up with for new boards under your brainstorming category-- not that they aren't topics that boyagers have mutual interests in, but we don't have enough active people who like to filter content that we need to separate things like that. Separating boards only aids in activity when there are people who don't want to shift through all the content. When everyone reads mostly everything, it's more of an activity-killer to split things up like that.

I would like to cast my vote in support of vziard's LPA for the PBRB.

EDIT: I put an announcement up in the Boyah facebook group so hopefully people who come here every once and awhile but aren't active enough to see this will take notice.

1. Don't combine with videogames
2. I think that discussing professional sports is a different category from what would be discussed in IRL Land, but idk if the sports discussion here is apparent enough to need a whole board. I'll let people who like sports to decide this

4. Sure, but members of DoD should stay members of DoD (I paid for my rights)
5. I don't really think that we have enough original content coming in to yield a critique board. A sticky on The Arts discussion would suffice for the time being imo, and if it gets enough activity, then I think a sub-forum should be considered.

I don't like the name IRL Land, it should just be Real Life or something along those lines.
I like anime as a child board but I don't know how a critique board would really fare.
I like where you're going with the scholarly debate thing, but I think it needs to be altered a little bit in some way.

I'm not sure about deleting the sports board though... I thought the whole reason we have it is to keep sports discussion out of other boards.
I'm cool with combining sleep into irl
A 100% quota board would not only be tricky, some people would constantly be going back-and-forth between membership, and it would really do a lot to restrict discussion around here. i think it would be pretty awful for activity.

I like that idea too, but a streaming board wouldn't really work. I don't know, but we really should try to get some streaming integration into the home page.

And they shouldn't affect the "new posts" status of the parent board. This is what I really dislike about child boards.
