i have so, so many of these. and note that i'm kinda talking traditional rpg structure here. themes for individual towns that are separate from the overworld (or paths) between towns. as opposed to something like persona, where the "town theme" isn't really a thing because the city is just the default location and there's no overworld or anything separate from it

yes, putting rpg in a very literal sense.

GTA is a rpg, you play as Trevor, or michael and Franklin

Mario is a rpg, you play as mario (minus the actual mario rpgs)

What exactly distinguishes Zelda, especially nu-Zelda like BotW, from something more universally considered to be an RPG like Skyrim? Is the presence or absence of leveling up the only significant mechanical difference?
