metroid: samus returns

i'd never even heard of mercury before today

their only noteworthy releases are a trilogy of consecutively more mediocre castlevania games

i have no confidence whatsoever

I stand by that the first los is legitimately a great game.
The 3ds one was good, but felt a little forced in trying to be a metroidvania. Los2 mostly failed because they tried to make it a stealth game mostly.

With this, they have a framework already to work with. I feel it will be hard to like, genuinely mess this up. Like, bad.

I feel the worst is that it'll be like, ok.

would look towards metroid prime 4 but lol i left the previous installments in in incomplete hell

so i'm actually only now watching this for the first time

i smiled :'(

it legitimately looks great

and i had always found it kind of a waste that samus' left arm pretty much just dangles uselessly in every single metroid game and thought they could give it some use by introducing melee combat

and then this game seems to have introduced basic melee combat

lol omg

except using the arm canon so left arm is still useless, but it's a promising start

i have medium hopes for this game, but i'll probably buy it no matter what

i could see it settling in the low-mid 8 range, and i'd probably be okay with that

oh my goodness

another new element is the ability to ping out a pulse to discover secrets. The ability to scan is attached to a meter that can be refilled by defeating enemies and it can help fill out your map and identify breakable rocks.

and the ability to to scan the environment will hopefully help reduce those moments where you are exploring aimlessly without clear direction.

this addresses my single most significant complaint about the metroid series
