i cheesed him on my first playthrough too, but by my second i was confident enough to take him on directly and i quickly realized he's pretty easy if you're just as aggressive as he is lol

and by my third confrontation with him he went down in about a minute

Besides, he's considered by some to be one of the harder bosses, and I'm still rockin starter gear for the most part.

funny enough, my first time, he was like, one of the few bosses I didn't cheese. But I was better prepared with the heater shield and other stuff.

I think I mostly fucked up my stats this time, because everything I want to use is strength based, but is dex based in later games.

Or rather, requires more strength than I remember, and equip burden is a huge pain in the ass in demons

yeah, being really aggressive is the key to flamelurker, since he thankfully staggers from hits fairly often and his attacks have decent-ish forewarning. unless you are indeed going to cheese him via purple flame shield (or getting him stuck in that little bone house in the room)
