http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/21/china-russia-gas-deal-gazprom_n_5364004.html

so it eventually happened, but it wasn't quite as favorable to russia as putin would have liked

gazprom was hoping for $400/unit and ended up only getting around $350, which is only slightly above breaking even

this is less than what europe pays on average despite the cost of transportation to china being higher, and they were hoping for china to pay more than europe to make up for that (which was never going to happen and which is why these "negotiations" had been in limbo for well over a decade)

$400 billion over the course of 30 years (13.33 billion/yr) isn't anything to scoff at, but considering that russia is a developed country with a population 150 million strong it turns out to be pretty insignificant

it'll increase russia's gdp by less than seven thousandths per year lol (a figure which will only decrease with time)

and on top of that, russia will be paying the bulk of the cost for the development of pipelines and infrastructure to the tune of $55 billion, further eating into its profits

china on the other hand will be putting a mere $22 billion into infrastructure on its side lol

to make matters even worse, china only opted to purchase about 1/5 of what europe does (again, though huge, less than what putin was hoping for), so while russia's market has diversified it's not nearly to the point at which it can just brush """sanctions""" (if we ever actually start imposing those) or a significantly reduced reliance on russian energy off

really puts this image in perspective

so much for china's warming relations with russia.

Kalahari Inkantation

lol

china could not possibly have picked a better time to finally accept this deal, as absolutely all the conditions were in its favor

but at least putin gets to boast about how he stuck it to the west and created a new economic reality for russia to people who couldn't possibly care enough to actually be aware of the terms of the deal both at home and abroad

also, fun fact:

the leader of the so-called """donetsk people's republic""", whose existence is based upon the assertion that ukraine is a fascist neonazi state, is himself a literal neonazi lmao

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_GubarevGubarev was a member of the neo-Nazi Russian National Unity paramilitary group.
presidential elections today vuvudood;

assuming no rigging, the winner is very likely to be pro-europe business magnate petro poroshenko (54% favorability), the amazing chocolatier
i am honestly tempted to import some mediocre ukrainian chocolate from his confectionary company should he actually turn out to do a decent job as president y/n
QuoteVadim Rabinovich (Ukrainian Jewish Congress) - 1.9%
Oleh Tyahnybok (VO Svoboda) - 1.3%
Dmytro Yarosh (Right Sector) - 0.9%

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_GeopoliticsRussia should manipulate Japanese politics by offering the Kuril Islands to Japan and provoking anti-Americanism.

time to clean up the military bases on okinawa to appease tojo
i know full well people who live on the main islands don't give a single damn about what happens on okinawa lol
Daddy

yes because i'm sure complicating relations between us and japan by buddying up with japan will help clear up everything with the triangle of US-Russia-China relations.

if anything it'd push the US and China closer.

good wager there putin
