with turnips you can always move forward and be fine (provided it doesn't go passed a sunday), but never backward.

Turnips only are sensitive to changes to your own town's time, not the time of other towns you visit

Otherwise, the two systems would need to be perfectly synchronized to the same time. If, for example, your friend's clock is one minute slow due to clock drift and/or imprecise time set, visiting their town would count as going back to the past and trigger time travel punishments. Going between timezones would be the same: an Eastern Time user visiting Pacific Time would be moving to the past. When my clock was still set to 12-hours-future, it was practically using Hong Kong's time zone.

Was this actually a problem in Wild World and/or City Folk?

or did you misinterpret me saying "not anymore"? I meant that I fixed my own clock to use EDT because my sleep schedule finally stabilized to something reasonable.
