oh, there was a halloween event that upped the difficulty about 5 times and threw the world into pure black tendency

Primeval demons were everywhere, and you slay them to get colorless demon souls which are used to upgrade the Adjudicator's Shield and loads of other stuff.

And that's really the only way to get those souls, aside from that crow in 4-1 that gives you one.

If you take it slow and play it carefully like you're actually in this world, it's not that bad.

Lawlz is right though, you just need to be patient and be careful. A lot of enemies can and will kill you if you aren't.

I have to admit I've never genuinely beaten the first SMB either.

It's hard as dicks, and I've only once made it past the last world because the levels are so long with such a short amount of time to complete them.
