I was trying to make a joke but you RUINED IT

It's not really a joke when a lot of people believe such. I mean, they think he supports death panel. 

you're not going to fix anything significant by telling people to stay in school and get good grades. maybe it will make statistics more aesthetically pleasing, but that's about it. not when you fail to address the social environment, the family structure and influence, the whole premise and function of the American education system, and the overall attitude and concern of the individual.

The speech will influence poor, black children the most since they generally seem to look up to him. That demographic is also the demographic that trails in math and science (because lol learnin is for white people).

Raising the bar for the lowest portion, raises the bar for everyone. Standards are raised as more people meet current standards.

American kids are no less genetically inclined to succeed at math, science, writing etc... than Indian or Chinese kids. the problem is in the way they are raised and expected to succeed. and the process which takes them through a bankrupting gauntlet designed to kill the individual and to discourage creativity and ingenuity for the sake of simplicity and convenience.

They are less inclined to succeed because society encourages such.  Being viewed as intelligent is bad. As for creativity and ingenuity, it takes intelligence for such. You're also neglecting europe which is a boon of innovation yet it still kicks our ass in education.

i didn't learn shit about them (except for marx in 12th grade) through my school system. had to venture out and find out on my own.
