In My Heroes, there are some areas of the story where a character must be escorted or rescued.
While it could just be an even for cinematic sequences, we thought it would be good to have escort/rescue missions.

Here's the deal, though.

  • There will be a time limit.

  • If there are rescue missions, it is a requirement to complete the level.

  • It will not be in an RPG format. It will be in Platformer format (basic jumping and attacking, etc...)

To make things easier...I've come up with some ideas...

  • There will be items, such as health items and items to reduce the time clock (meaning your total time is slightly subtracted, giving the player more time to complete the area).

  • While the character you are playing can be hurt, the character you are escorting WILL NOT be able to get hurt. This makes the experience less frustrating.

  • There will be checkpoints, so if the player were to die, they would not have to start at the beginning.

What do you guys think?
If you have any ideas you think could make it better, share your ideas.

Unless it's impossible to die, escort missions are never fun.

The only difference from others compared to my idea is there will be items.
And it's not like I'll stick in 100,000,000 enemies in. My idea is mostly having the environments damage you, like booby traps and whatnot. It's more about using your head than blazing through the level.

I don't see what's so bad about it. I tried to make it a little better by not having the escort the ability to be damaged.

Well, the character you play can be damaged. Instead of waltzing through, environments can hurt you as well as enemies.
I just know a lot of gamers hate escort missions. I'm trying to make it more interesting.

Lemme rephrase that:
What's the point of including escort missions if whoever you're escorting can't be hurt? Why don't you just exclude them?

But see, from all the reviews and such of games that feature escort missions, they're always bitching about the person being escorted getting hurt.

So if I allowed the escorted to get hurt...perhaps the health items could effect both player and the escort.
Would that work?

Alan

We're telling you not to include escort missions. Why do you keep coming up with bullshit reasons to keep them in?

Look at it like this.

You get a 10 minute level or a 5 minute cutscene.
Which would you prefer?

I'm simply trying to make it more entertaining for the players.
