Trainer types: Something I don't get....

Alright, you know how you can choose what kind of trainer you are, and what you choose will have a slight benefit on a certain aspect? Well I said that I was was a Psychic trainer, which would boost the amount of EXP I get for any Ghost/ Psychic pokemon. Well, the weird thing is, I don't get the boost for Gengar. I mean, I know why, but it's just weird. The fact that I don't get a boost for Gengar just because his other type is Poison, but I do for Sableye, while his other type is Dark, baffles me.

So why does it give a Psychic/Ghost bonus to one with Dark, when that's like, those types' worst enemy, while it doesn't for Poison?
