Because everyone wants to devote their time and energy into learning a real instrument, correct? Thsi is America, instant gratification is needed. Those who want to play a real instrument and kick ass will play a real instrument. Those who want to have a good time instantly will play Rock Band and/or Guitar Hero. Some may do both.
