Awesome. As far as I know, first 32GB flash player out there. I'll have to pick this one up when it comes out to us sometime in January.

~$400 for 32 gigs? Flash may be less prone to failure, but I'll stick with a standard iPod.

It's only being released in Europe for now. By January, they should be able to sell it cheaper, and then there's the fact that all electronics seem to be more expensive in Europe.

It's now on their site. The US retail price will be $329, about what the ZVM was at launch.

I think I'll wait for a price drop on this one.

I have to say FUCK YEAH they're trying to make flash only drive mp3 players. Too expensive but that kicks ass so fucking badly. I'm not very delicate with mp3 players and stuff so good news for me.

We've been moving towards flash for a while now. EpiZenter is saying that a firmware update will add SD/SDHC integration in January, so you can have 64GB of solid state then with a 32GB card.

Kinda wish Creative would make an HDD successor to the Zen Vision: M, though. Unfortunately, the only HDD player they're staying with is the Zen Vision: W. :(

My how flash has come.

When do we start using Flash as our main storage?

I don't think everyone will be using only Flash, just because how much a HDD can store.  If I need to "back up my movie collection"  I'll put it all on a HDD, but it would be nice to have some Flash Storage to put an OS on, and some other apps.  :P

Zeta

um ya he was asking when SSD Flash drives will replace hard drives. I'll say 2011 for the most part.

A long ass time, we're upgrading to HD so I'm sure we'll need those 600gbs - at least people who download a lot. I'm sure Flash will become the main storage in the year 2015 for sure but it might happen before that. Maybe it'll be like most computer users use flash and the cheaper models use hard drives as well as the people who need that 600gbs

There were always be use for Hard Drives.  Like, I've been to John Deere's Data Center, and its full of servers that have Terabytes of Data.

Hard drives will always be superior in just holding large amounts of data (like for servers), but Flash will be good for having fast access times.

Zeta

Always have higher capacities? Yeah, for a few years at least.

But I'd be surprised if we didn't start seeing more SSD's by 2011-2012.

I don't know, there's already a laptop that has some flash memory, it has a solid state drive, but I don't know how much it holds
