I'd go with 80s, the trashy drums and horrible early digitals synthesizers made a really bad mix. of all the music I like probably 4 are from the 80s.
the 80s, easily. most of the pop from that era was trash, and hair metal was a laughably bad movement. synths became less creative and more annoying, and the same goes for electronic drum kits. there were still people making good music, people who resisted all the neon and synths, but most of what the decade offered was bad, and some of it was just plain weird.
come on eileen is a guilty pleasure, though.
at least some of the weird stuff was actually pretty damn great, but i feel like the shittiness of mainstream culture really overshadows the good stuff.
I'll say 00's.
nothing terribly innovative or anything
also fuck you guys the eighties had some good music.

rock music died in 97
I guess I'll concur and say 80s because 80s pop and other bullshit. It's still the best decade for "industrial" music though.
Otherwise I would say maybe the 50s I guess. Not a huge fan of that period's jazz and and I don't see much else that appeals to me there besides exotica and early-electronic bologna.

I will never eat this sandwich
anything before the bebop scene is not worth recognizing as art and anything after it is just Laughable Tributes.
But guys there's such awesome stuff that came out in the 80s ;-;
I don't know though, I guess in terms of music I actually listen to the 50's has the least of it.

agreed completely and wholeheartedly brother.
The 80s or 90s... I'd go 80s usually because the 90s at least took a step in the right direction while the 80s set up the 90s

Outside of mainstream top 100 radio there is some decent innovation and good out there
but I guess that can be said for pretty much every era
The naughties easily... recycled and rehashed techniques from the '80s and '90s. FACT: "According to The Guardian, music styles during the 2000s changed very little from how they were at last half of the 1990s. (Wikipedia)"
the only real innovative movement was the electroclash movement... but that burned out very quickly

Rock was a novelty back then, if you don't enter into it expecting any artistic merit than it can be enjoyable. Comparable to Hair Metal except without the faux-rebellious image.

good point, I like country/honkytonk/folk (real folk) from that period more anyway, which I guess is where rock came from.
From the songs I have heard, the difference between country, 'pop jazz', rock etc. probably sounded really polarized back then, but now you can hear the obvious influence they had on each other. Such as jazz solos in country-ish songs and 'loud' RnB, shit like that. I can't name any artists or songs from that period since I only listen to songs on the radio lol.

GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE: a japanese psychedelic punk rock, either their songs are crazy loud psychedelic freak outs or really calm quiet songs that LURK around your speakers. 3 really talented musicians playing together always insync. I can't tell if it is free form or actually written songs(really outdated method, but if it is written songs it is great.)

lil quote from Cool Singer Ian Svenonius about Weird War:
"We were on tour and we went to a hotel one night. In that hotel we had a dream. It was a collective dream. In that dream we knew how to read. We started to read a book which featured the artist Salvador Dali. In the book, he theorized that Adolf Hitler, the famous dictator, was just acting a Wagnerian obsession. Dali thought Hitler loved opera so much, that he wanted to die heroically, in a German way. And when we awoke we were filled with hope. Because we realized that if we could construct a narrative. If we rock and roll people could make a narrative that was similarly made, we could drive our own president to kill himself in his own bunker. He could take a little cyanide pill sewn into his suit jacket. That is what our music is all about."

I think he might have missed his chance. But then, if he's really as much of a purist as he claims to be, I don't think that'll matter to him.
Regardless, they played some pretty big venues last tour, so it looks like there's still a great platform out there for him.
He wasn't a dick when I talked to him either. Real friendly and excited about the turnout and everything.
I dunno.

Yeah he seems to be only a dick to people who don't really 'understand' him. Like a lot of interviewers, all the people who went to his shows say he is a really Nice Guy.
also BJM are bigger than they ever were. Not that this is the most accurate way of counting the number of fans, but when I started listening to them (2008??) they had about 150,000+ less listeners on last.fm then they do now( which last i checked was 200,500 or something like that.) so popularity wise it seems to be the best time out of all his life.
Musically-wise he matured nicely, from cool pop songs to experimentation that often goes right. I do not get all the hatred for My Bloody Underground or Who Killed Sgt Peppers? Just people demanding the same music over and over again i guess i dunno Ain't Gonna Judge. I love the shit out of those albums and all those demos on youtube aaaaaa. He probably won't get the attention he deserves, but it will be better than anything anyone else is doing.

Yeah, it seems the biggest complaint right now is his deviation from the norm; getting away from those standards that made him so great.
It took a little adjusting for me too though. I wasn't really expecting it, but I really do like the new experimental stuff.
