I was seriously going to do that some days ago.
I've decided it was retarded when someone said a lyric to me.
It was direct and awesome.
Trust me, people believing in a higher power is the least of society's downfalls.

Letting it dictate everything you do, even when it's contradictory to logic and common decency is up there with the worst of society's downfalls.

Oh, you and your anti-religious attitude.
Religion gives the capacity for great good, I think. Spiritually most of all. And I think the day-to-day threat of religious thought is a lot worse than a lot of non-religiously motivated things in society: rape, theft, some murders, road rage, those fuckers at school, etc.
On the other hand...mostly in society good people do good things and bad people do bad things. Drugs and religion are the only two things that make good people do bad things. I can't endorse a lot of religious practices and belief system because they are so directly detrimental to the workings of society and its structure. It's something to be changed.
But spirituality itself is pure, while dogma and religion can have either good or bad aspects.
Creationism has nothing to back it up as a theory. akudood;

I seriously think those would have developed either way.

I think that's a pretty large generalization to say those are the only two things that make good people do bad things... There are a large variety of reasons for people to change their habits

Probably not to the degree of what it is today, but maybe. And don't forget that it makes people think that praying works.

And there's also, in my mind, no realistic way to differentiate "good people" and "bad people." That concept doesn't exist for me. But that slightly jokish line does point out the power of religion over the base of our thoughts, and the way we interpret the world morally. That moral power, and the tendency of religions to be based on large communities, can create this really detrimental singleminded moral mob, or it can make a wonderfully supportive powerful singleminded moral mob.

I don't think anyone thinks praying is something that will grant whatever you desire... And I really believe people will just look for any difference to pick at and degrade others for. It's really not a result of religion.
To an athiest, religious is merely a fabrication, which was created by people. So to say that somehow religion instills the ideas of discrimination or encourages beyond the normal human capacity is ridiculous because hate has always existed

The same can be said of any political or geographic community... There's almost always going to be some sort of influence over a person's way of thinking and ethics

Oh yes! Totally agreed. Environmental factors are huge, always and all the time. But religion can redifine thinking in the most central of ways: "Is this okay? Is this right? Is this justifiable? It must be alright, or at least somewhat positive, because my religion and religious community say it's good. Within the way I believe the universe and humans work, this is ok. I have faith in it." It's harder, but still possible, to say "This is OK because I live in New York"
Religion is a very powerful tool for human to human interaction, or for the interaction of large groups of people. I don't think it's inherently bad, neither good. Sorta like the internet.
Why don't you assholes stop making fun of religion and move onto something more original? I guarantee you that in your days of bitching you haven't compelled anyone to leave the church. Do you think you're more intelligent or, dare I say, more intellectual by hating religion like every other asshole and his mom on the internet? The fact is, for a lot of people, religion is an incredibly positive force in their life. You only live once. Who gives a shit if you live your life in the most dry, factual, yeastless way possible? Get the fuck OVER it.

Making fun of religious fundamentalism != making fun of religion.
And you're right: I only live once, why should that life be moderated and legislated by what religious people find acceptable?

Oh man, JMV. Your life is just awful. Every decision you make is clearly dictated by the Mormon Fundamentalists in the mountains of British Columbia. How do you live? They're like big brother. Always fucking with your life n' shit.

Oh, because religious people never try to prevent people from getting married, choosing what to do with their own body, or what we learn.
You're an idiot and a shitty troll.

The point I'm trying to make is that your life is not affected negatively in any way by the religious "fundamentalists" that you spend a good 25% of your life attacking on the internet (to no avail). Unless you're getting raped by your father or the church is stopping you from getting married to your boyfriend (we live in New England, so that's obviously not the problem) then don't act like you're getting shot in the foot by organized religion.
You're an ignorant liberal with poor moral standards.
Hey look, I can insult 2. cool yet?
In addition, just because my opinion is contrary to the dumbfucks that inhabit the comments section on Youtube videos doesn't mean I'm a "troll". It means I think for myself and Stalin hasn't reached my house yet.
LOL

and lol stalin that is totally related to liberalism, or even socialism if you want to bring it that far.
you're right though, you're at the other end of the spectrum. hitler's in your kitchen.
Okay. Let's have a conversation about religion and start quoting eachother's AIM conversations. That's cool. Is that what they're doing on NBC these days? Just keep eating it with a silver spoon. You claim that religion brainwashes people or takes away their rights. You and your liberal brethren are just doing it in a more subtle and 21st century-friendly way.
Don't worry though, once you grow up and have decisions to make besides what cereal to eat in the morning or what section of the liberal blogosphere to browse, maybe you'll understand.

I forgot to mention that this was simply about evolution vs. creation, now religion in general.
I have nothing against religion and find many of Christ's teachings admirable. However, it's pretty awful that many people asume that you can be a christian and evolutionist at the same time when the bible has nothing against it. It's ridiculous that people still look for science in the bible, which was written as a book of morals during a time that science wasn't nearly as developed as it is today.

You're an idiot. You've made ad hominem arguments and posted a picture of hitler with obama's face. SO WORTHY OF ARGUMENT.
Let me tell you, it's completely trendy to support making sure every gets equal rights and healthcare. I'm just following that trend that has been going on for decaes mirite.
It's also hilarious that you mention people with "trendy political views" in the same post you infer that you're part of the "growing moderate right and libertarian movement".
Not every political movement is a trend. Liberalism is a trend because 99 percent of liberals don't know why they're that way. All they know is "barack n roll yes we can ^_^ niggers gay rights"
There's a reason that the majority of the democratic party is a bunch of 21 year old college students and the majority of registered republicans are much older. They've actually had time to get to know the world and apply their education to shit that actually matters rather than just ranting about whatever their econ professor told them.

The same can be said for 99 percent of conservatives. Especially when they are that way because their religion (THE ORIGINAL FUCKING POINT I MENTIONED ABOUT PEOPLE LETTING IT GOVERN EVERYTHING IN THEIR LIFE. I DONT THINK ANY RELIGIOUS PERSON HERE, EVEN PUU MASTA FUNK WOULD DISAGREE WITH ME THAT DOING SUCH IS WRONG).
QuoteThere's a reason that the majority of the democratic party is a bunch of 21 year old college students and the majority of registered republicans are much older.
Because values of people of the nation are changing and those who hold on to the older values are "conservative"?
You're stupid if you don't realize what was considered liberal 100, or even 50 years ago, is generally conservative now.
In 50 years a lot of "liberal values" today will be what the conservative party of the time support (i.e. the people right now when they're old will support today's liberal values, which by then will be conservative)
QuoteThey've actually had time to get to know the world and apply their education to shit that actually matters rather than just ranting about whatever their econ professor told them.
