Title: Scribblenauts
Post by: strongbad on June 07, 2009, 09:26:24 PM
DS GoTY right here.
Read this:
QuoteI had played all the big titles at E3. Private showings of God of War III, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake. But at 4:00 on Thursday, I was wondering around the show floor, wondering what else I had to see. I saw a small little booth for "Scribblenauts!" in the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment section. I mean, who goes to that booth? But I remember hearing about it on GAF, and so I decided to check it out.

Best game of E3? Without a fucking doubt. Anyone who says otherwise did not play Scribblenauts. Best game of all time? Jesus Christ, I don't know, maybe. It's a game that challenges your IMAGINATION. No other game has ever done that.

So listen to this story. I was in the early levels; I didn't quite have an idea of how ridiculously in-depth the database was. I was summoning things like ladders, glasses of water, rayguns, what have you. But I reached a level with zombie robots, and the zombie robots kept killing me. Rayguns didn't work, a torch didn't work, a pickaxe didn't work. In my frustration, I wrote in "Time Machine". And one popped up. What the fuck? A smile dawned on my face. I hopped in, and the option was given to me to either travel to the past or the future. I chose past. When I hopped out, there were fucking dinosaurs walking around. I clicked one, and realized I could RIDE THEM. So I hopped on a fucking DINOSAUR, traveled back to the present, and stomped the shit out of robot zombies. Did you just read that sentence? Did you really? I FUCKING TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT ZOMBIES. This game is unbelievable. Impossible. There's nothing you can't do.

Holy fucking shit.

Taken from some guy at neogaf.

Also give this a watch:

I don't really understand how you play the game. Looks like that Drawn To Life game released last year, but it gives you many more options, but it's not a platformer.

It's some weird sandbox sim game...I don't get it, but it looks interesting.

This game does indeed look awesome, I saw it a couple months ago and was very impressed.
I like how the main character looks too  giggle;

My only concern for this game is that they could end up making it too childish, but so far, so good. thumbup;

Here's the basic outline of the game:
You go through levels, trying to get these star things. A quick example is that a star thing would be on top of a tree. You could type in "ladder" to climb up and get it, or "axe" to cut the tree down and get it. Even jetpack. The database is fucking huge. It also has zombies.

Okay, at first seeing the title I thought this was going to be some stupid-ass game, but upon watching the E3 demo (where they put god, equipped with a shotgun, and made him fight cthulu(sp?)) this game looks fucking sweet.

This is the next DS title I am going to buy! How about you?

For those of you with a flashcart, this may be good news:
Read this first:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=158665&st=280

Then skim through this thread:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=170515&st=0

And finally:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=35529&st=328

So I'm 90% sure that this guy is legit, since who would go through all that trouble to fake a demo? I'm guessing that since he was asking about releasing it as a scene release because he was able to get it dumped, but it's a shame that he was banned. His recent posts should not have gotten him banned, so that must mean that he was doing something in IRC like sharing the demo.

tl;dr: Flashcart users might get a scribblenauts demo

This is great news, since I'm planning on buying the game anyway. I would love to have the e3 demo to fuck around with.

Title: Re: Scribblenauts
Post by: strongbad on July 30, 2009, 01:14:37 PM
So turns out that the guy is legit (showed more proof), but he was scared to distribute it, and had no luck getting it released as a scene release. I talked to him and convinced him to do an anonymous upload to megaupload. There's like 50 people looking for it now. This is sort of fun lol.

HIRO THIS IS ANOTHER REASON WHY YOU SHOULD GET A FLASHCART

Just got this:
Hey I've done an extensive search on the files uploaded around the time that Cruddy Buddy said he uploaded it.  There were a number of files removed due to terms of service violations so either that or he didn't upload it at all.  Just an update.
I saw an RS link on 4chan earlier. Didn't download it because it was a .7z and I don't have any interest in the game anyway. So it's out there.

now I'm playing the game. world 1-8, pick up the trash, kill the fly. I could use a fly swatter, but how boring. how about venus fly trap? dead fly. awesome. I might actually have to pick this game up.

One thing I don't like (apart from the wonky touch control) is that stuff that should be heavy flies around like it's paper.

On the first few levels when I was using boxes, I'd get up on one, or try to, and it'd move and topple over.

On that one level where you need to get the sheep over to the herd and get rid of the wolf, I used a fan to push the wolf in the water, then put the fan in the water to kill the wolf. Then went over to the sheep, attached a rope to it, dragged it over to the side into the water because ridge isn't long enough to stretch across the gap, so I summoned a bulldozer on the other size, attached the rope to it, and by the time I was able to get into the bulldozer, the rope had dragged it into the water, electrocuting the sheep. I lose.

But it's still pretty fun.

DSTT has just as good compatibility as any other flashcart, it just has less features. You don't know what you're talking about. R4's are straight awful, and CycloDSs are better than AK2s. I just want a CycloDSi to come out so I can get a DSi already ;-;

Hey hey hey, I need some help with action puzzle 1-4, the one with the button and the broken gate

How the fuck do you get the button pressed?! I tried EVERYTHING and still cannot get it to stay pressed so that I can go through the fucking gate.

I EVEN SHRUNK THE GATE, USED A ROPE TO TRY AND FISH OUT THE STARITE, AND THAT DOESN'T WORK.

I flew up on the ledge and pushed a rock or something into the button

son of a bitch, I summoned a rock next to it and just kept dropping it near the button and shit happened. I'll try pushing it over.

At one point, I summoned a teleporter to bypass the gate, but instead it took me to Fifth Cell labs or something, the fuck? I also summoned a robot at the top and placed a remote in Max's hand and tried controlling the robot, needless to say, it didn't work, at all.

Also, what the hell is up with every creature I summon being extremely aggressive? Summon any animal and they attack you for no reason at all. I summoned a harpy, quickly keyed in "saddle" placed it on the harpy, jumped on it, and the Harpy suicide bombed into the ground killing me.

I put a conveyor belt next to the button and put a crate on top of it so it kept riding into the button. The gate kept going up and down, but it worked.

The touchy controls are frustrating though. There's one action one where you have to rescue a stranded climber and take her up a mountain. I attached one end of a rope to her and the other to a helicopter and flew her up, but every time I'd accidentally click on the chopper and she'd fall and die.

Fly up to the area with the tree with a plane. Get off the plane and then push it down so that it will hit the button. Then jump off and go through the gate.

I think that's what I remember doing.

Haven't tested it but when I updated my cheat file, there was a cheat where you could control with the directional pad.

Also: How do you pull levers?

He may mean pull levers at a location that are unreachable to Maxwell.

I know there's a certain kind of profession that can pull levers. I saw something about that in a thread on /v/. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it was.

Merchanic, engineer, try things like that.
