You also desperately need some other progressive rock bands, Geno. King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes, etc. More blues rock too, if you like Led Zeppelin...Cream and Derek and the Dominos, especially. Taste, The Doors...yeah.
Oh, and some more more modern stuff, seriously. At least 90s. Alternative 90s like The Smashing Pumpkins is good...also Queens of the Stone Age. Try some grunge like Nirvana and Soundgarden, too, when it comes to the 90s. Radiohead for a mix of alt and prog. And Britpop like The Verve and Oasis. When it comes to the 2000s, try The Black Keys and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
I also really recommend trying some indie shit. of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pinback.
Also, how the hell can you be into 80s heavy metal and not have Iron Maiden?

Agreed.
Also, try some Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Wonderful band. Try their
Brain Salad Surgery album. It's progressive rock from the 70's, and incredibly awesome.

ELP is actually one of my least favorite 70s prog band. They're at least better than the godawful Kansas, though.
you should try iron savior its like crack and fast food mixed together
you know it's really bad but you listen to it anyway baddood;

Seriously? O_0
I love them. I like Yes more, but I still love ELP quite a lot.
I can play "Benny The Bouncer," and the 1st and 3rd Impressions of Karn Evil 9 on the piano.

Well, no prog acts really stand up to Pink Floyd for me. Then there's also King Crimson and Jethro Tull, both of which are much better than ELP if you ask me. Yes...I guess is just a little better than ELP. Genesis is also pretty good.

Well, yeah. I agree with Pink Floyd.
Then, I have Yes, ELP, and King Crimson.
I haven't heard enough of Jethro Tull or Genesis to judge, so yeah.
Geno, you lack Pearl Jam.
Since I don't really listen to rock/metal that much I really cant help you. Sorry man. saddood;
I don't know much about metal since I hate it, but my brother is a huge fan, so I'll recommend a song I have that reminds me of him: "Only for the Weak" by In Flames

Oh, fuck yes.
Jeremy and
Alive are fucking amazing songs. Their next album was also good,
Daughter was pretty cool and I appreciated the idea of how the album had no music videos. Kinda took you back in time and I think it gave the album a little more of an appeal. Oh, and I know it's off a later album, but I also like
Do The Evolution.

I have no problem with you not liking metal, but that's a stupid argument, considering only some sub-genres have vocals like that. doodhuh;

How about... it doesn't sound good to me. I don't like the amount of distortion. Growling really annoys me. If it doesn't sound good to me, why would I listen?

That's better. Your problem before was that lyrics can be difficult to hear in
any genre.

Death Metal is a pretty different story

Death Metal is a pretty different story
"Death metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal. It typically employs fast tempos, heavily distorted guitars, deep growling vocals, morbid lyrics, blast beat drumming, and complex song structures with multiple tempo changes"
Sounds worse to me

No I'm saying that what you described is death metal

Well it still places an emphasis on distortion... it's just too rough for me. Often the lyrics' themes don't interest me as well, so I really don't feel inclined to listen when I'm usually getting nothing out of it lyrically or instrumentally.

That's why I love Metallica. Their songs are badass and beautiful at the same time.

Modern rock music in general does. Not as great of an emphasis, but still. Distorted guitars are a staple of rock...and punk, for that matter, Mr. Punkster.

Which is probably why I have trouble finding modern bands I enjoy. There's a lot of punk music I hate too n_u
I just have a lot I like at the same time
I need to add more metal to my library.
Kings of Leon
They should be generic enough for your tastes, but they are incredible at the same time.
