Title: Songbird ~ iTunes + Mozilla
Post by: The artist formally known on May 10, 2007, 01:05:33 AM
Oh shit, I think this is the program that I've been waiting for.

http://www.songbirdnest.com/

It probably needs tons of work but so far, it's an open source media player. Supports skins (which they call feathers), plug-ins and it's cross platform. Hopefully in the future it will take over my iTunes but as of right now it'll just be something I bookmark and check it out in the future once they've gotten more development into it.

I just downloaded the beta and jerked off.

Holy shit, so far even the beta has better features then iTunes. They have an option where you can automatically import songs from a folder (A download folder if you wish). They will have things to let you use Songbird with iPods and whatever MP3 players there are. I wouldn't doubt if someone made easy video converters for iPods too.

Hotkeys if you want to make like F1 lower music volume and F2 to raise volumes.

HOLY SHIT LAWLZ, IT USES VLC FOR VIDEO PLAYBACK

HOW ABOUT DEM APPLES

... I'm interested. yes;

If this really means I won't have to use iTunes for my iPod anymore, I may just shit myself in excitement.
I FUCKING KNOW

I CAN'T WAIT TIL THEY SUPPORT MORE SHIT

All I need is to get my Last.fm hooked up and a taskbar player. Then anything else is extra from what I had in iTunes

I've used it since it came out and updated not too long ago. I use every version for a while, but find myself deleting it within a few hours.

I've hated every version so far and I doubt I'll ever change my mind. There's something about it that I flat out hate, though I can't explain why.

Does the library work like in iTunes?

I like how iTunes keeps the library.  Everything is organized and kept in sight.

Windows media player just searches your harddrive.

iTunes has you manually add the songs but the library is more organized.

It's pretty much and iTunes rip with some features still being "worked on". You can import your iTunes library directly into it and it'll look just like it does for you in iTunes. After toying around with it, I still prefer iTunes.

Alright,   I hate iTunes but it has the best library feature I've seen.  It's the only reason I've kept it.

And it looks like iTunes a bit too much for me.

Personally I think Musicmatch's is better, what with one collapsable artist list instead of a gigantic fucking list of every damn song. It's also much easier to make a mix with Musicmatch. Just highlight, right click and add to list. Then press the shuffle button. You can mix your entire library if you want in just a few seconds. iTunes requires you to make seperate playlists to do that or use party shuffle...fucking retarded.

However, Musicmatch tends to have more trouble with little corruptions in songs, making them hard to move if they're corrupt. iTunes will still use them as if they were normal. Musicmatch also doesn't start playing a song immediately...it takes about 1 second. So if you're playing an album where the songs should segue into each other, there will be tiny gaps.

I use them both, since they both have their qualities and problems.

As for this new iTunes rip-off, I'm not even going to bother.

Songbird's been around for quite a while, and it's not a ripoff. It just tries to combine too many apps and screws it all up.

I don't know about you but my most used programs are my music player and internet browser; so far iTunes has been decent but I'd like to have more features on it and defiantly better video playback.

This promises to offer both of them...

Indeed.

On Songbird, it sounds pretty cool... I don't know, though. I guess I'll try it. The built in web browser is cool, but seems unnecessary. And also, I don't want it duplicating the files of all my music when I import. Harddrive could explode. It would be cool if it could just have, I guess, a shadow of my iTunes. Like, every time I get a new CD, if I import to Songbird, it really puts it into my iTunes library, and Songbird plays the files from my iTunes. That way, it only keeps one copy of the files, and I don't have to update both programs. Wishful thinking...

Songbird is in Beta testing right now, for one

When you import it doesn't duplicate the song... If you keep everything in the same folder and import it, it should be PERFECT. If you import a CD from Songbird it'll download it to your computer, iTunes will only show it up if you import the music files.

A small screen.

I want a Zune.  The 30gb model costs the same as the 30gb iPod but it has many more features.

Larger Screen
FM Radio
Wireless

It works well and actually gets support.

Microsoft can't compete with Apple (they shouldn't even try), but Creative's Zen line sure as hell can.

Anyone that considers a Zune is a dumbass. They think "hay das micor$oft n dey has ecksbocks n da shitte operast sitsm i run, so dis must b gud," but ignore true competitors like the Zen lineup. It's mainly to "be a rebel."

Support? Smaller? Better looking? Touch wheel pad? Apple? iTunes support? 80gb models? iPod mini/shuffle models? Also works on Macs?

What does Zune have that iPod doesn't... You could say wifi transfers but that is the most worthless piece of shit they added last second.

Zen/iPod are the only good MP3 players. Zen is better but iPod has the touch wheel and better looks.

Actually looking at price and features the Zune is a better deal than the iPod.

I use Wiindows.  Why would I care if I can't use an iPod on a Mac?

I don't pay for music,  I will be able to get all my music on there.  Support doesn't seem to be a problem.

I've found every song that I've wanted to listen to the demo to on Zune Marketplace, and more. Linkin Park is on there, and they aren't on iTunes. And Microsoft is working on getting all the major companies on their side, they can totally buy out a companies services. They're working on getting Feuled By Ramen (a pretty big record label) and a few others to only have their music on the Zune Marketplace, and with how much money that Microsoft has, they can probably do that with every company they want.

And how doesn't the Zune work well? It has a nicer screen, better control, radio, wireless, and it comes with better headphones then the iPod (even though both packaged headphones suck), with the same amount of memory as the iPod Video 30 gb, with more color choices, for the same price.

Unless you only have a mac, then there's no reason not to get a Zune. I don't know anything about Zens though.

Linkin Park is on iTunes. Just checked. Anyways, who the hell pays for music?

Of course, M$ has to buy out companies because they know they don't stand a chance. They can't earn support over time like Apple, Nintendo, and pretty much every other company does. "Nicer" isn't a word, or at least not proper English. Spin wheel seems flawless. $5 addon if you need a radio, but if you have a radio, why buy music? Isn't one or the other good? Wifi=useless. Really, now? Earbuds=/=earphones, though both suck. Nothing goes on my ears. hai2u 80 gigs. Plus 15 hours of battery life. Plus the brightest screen of an PMP. All of the colors look like shit, the brown shit looking more like shit than the other shit.

Also, Apple gives wonderful discounts. I can snag them at $200.

So it's not like Apple can buy companies. It's not microsofts fault that they can, and they'll take the opportunity to. With an update, I can update my Zune wirelessly (and it's not wi-fi, my bad) so that's good. And you can't compare the 80 gig iPod to a 30 gig Zune, of course that one will be better considering that the price is a lot higher. The Zune has just as good battery life. I go to sleep listening to it and I have more then half full battery when I wake up. And yeah, I listen to the radio when trying to find new music, I don't have every song that exists, and a lot of people like the morning radio shows and stuff. And the White and Pink zunes look outrageously good (IMO). Of course looks are opinions.

Have you ever used a cellphone? Did you eyes bleed?

Just because the screen is smaller doesn't mean it strains your eyes. That'd be like saying games look better on a GBA SP than a Micro, when it's the complete opposite.

What about not wanting to strain your eyes watching a 3 inch screen?
Have you ever used a cellphone? Did you eyes bleed?

Just because the screen is smaller doesn't mean it strains your eyes. That'd be like saying games look better on a GBA SP than a Micro, when it's the complete opposite.
I try not to watch videos on my phone.
That's not the point. Cellphones have small, tightly packed pixels and look good. Just like the GB Micro and iPod. They look smooth, so there is no straining of your beady little eyes and whatever you're viewing actually looks smoother.

Also, iPhone.

Since Jobs returned, Apple hasn't disappointed with any of their products. Doubt they will for a long time.

Since the Wii came out, Nintendo has been fucking up loads.

Microsoft never did good.

Nintendo really fucked up since the Wii came out.

The only mistake with the Wii are it's highly inferior graphics and the shit they call an online system.

The problem isn't that they're selling shitloads, but every game so far sucks my sweaty, hairy balls. Warioware is the only passable game.

Hell, the only good thing Nintendo has pumped out for around a year is Pokémon.

Yeah, I haven't played any good games in quite a while.   The trend of short, nonlinear games is pissing me off.

I enjoy sitting down and playing a long game.

Part of it is Nintendo's fault, but the whole industry is to blame.
