As a Christian, what do you think about extra-terrestrial life?

What confuses the shit out of me is why we keep looking for water and air as signs of life. If the lifeforms are alien, why would they necessarily have to have the same things to sustain life?

Yeah, I never understood that either. They could live off of the dirt if they're built for it, not everything necessarily has to be made like the humans and animals on this planet.

I dunno, I am a Christian, but I don't think my non-belief in aliens is because of that.

It just doesn't seem right to me.  If it were proven to me that Aliens existed, I wouldn't try to deny it or anything.

... I find it highly likely that there is at least one other advanced civilization in the galaxy. There are 200-400 billion stars in our Galaxy. If we take the lower estimate of 200 billion, that still means that only 5.0 ? 10-10% of the stars in the Galaxy have life.  Considering that there are two other places in our own solar system that scientists believe are able to, or once were able to, sustain life(Europa and Mars) I find it impossible to believe that we are the only ones in our own galaxy.


And although I know you didn't say it, I find it stupid that anyone would try to believe that earth is the only place in the universe with life.  There are about 125 Billion Galaxies(the actual known number now my be higher, I can only find an estimate from 1999).  Even if I give a generous estimate and say that the milky way is twice as big as the average, and the average size is really 100 billion stars, and I say that the estimate of 125 billion is wrong, and say that there are 100 billion galaxies(both numbers lower than what scientists say), claiming that Earth is alone with life means that you have a 1.0 ? 10-20% chance of that.

.00000000000000000001% of stars have life?   That's insane, of course there are other planets with some form of life.


Also, remember the numbers I used were LOWER than what scientists say, and they are only using the VISIBLE universe.  We have no idea how old the universe is since we can only see a few billion light years of the universe.

Anyway, my thoughts are that there probably are non-Earthly life forms elsewhere in the Universe somewhere, that such life forms being intelligent as humans or more is very unlikely, and that no aliens have visited Earth.
My mother is somewhat Christian (believes in God, goes to church on Easter and Christmas, but is partially agnostic) and I'm fairly sure that she has the same opinion on aliens. I know for sure that she at least believes that they do exist.

Why? For all you know intelligence could continue on infinitely in both directions, considering how much space there is for how many living things to exist.
