It establishes the relationship between Anakin and Padme, and it also introduces the clone army, both of which are pretty major I'd say.

Doesn't make the movie suck any less tho

the clone wars are also the only prequel event actually mentioned in the original films

there are actually some parts of phantom menace i hate even more than clone wars, but overall i do think ii is indeed the weakest
