Is there any reason that apple doesn't let you install OS X on other PCs?

I just wanted to know if Apple had a reason for not allowing us to install OS X on a PC besides just so they can sell hardware.   I guess not.

Yes, I knew about OSx86, yes I know how to download pirated software.  It's not that hard, it wasn't my question.
