there is no story for xiii

it's a bunch of vaguely connected ideas thrown at the corner of a room where the pile up and oops none of it makes sense

oh come on...
there's obviously a story, just told really bad to where it makes no sense.
the problem is you have to read the synopsis for it to make any kind of sense.
that, and the story is more about the characters anyway, not the world around them.

well if the story is about the characters, then it's the barest of the bare bones of character development

lightning goes from being stoic and lifeless to being still stoic but nicer and "accepting" of snow. it's like a "grumpy dad finally lets daughter marry the love of her life" movie. also, she has some weird mother-ish tendencies that develop for hope, but they're really vague and completely dropped once the whole gang reunites.

hope goes from having it out for snow to...being a really generic overly hopeful jrpg protagonist. not that there's anything entirely wrong with this, but he's not the main character and he himself doesn't overcome any odds that make this optimism worthwhile: in the end, fang and vanille still sacrifice themselves anyway. tbh, i have no idea what the gang was trying to achieve by fighting orphan because the focus was still fulfilled anyway???

vanille has no personality and no development ever

neither does fang??? these two characters are just sort of "there" most of the time. they have a history that comes up and a big "mystery" surrounding them and they end up dying to save the world in the end but that's about all we know??

sazh and snow have reasons and things to fight for and all but only snow's is really delved into a lot - sazh's thing with his son is really only part of like one chapter of the game and then he's just sort of there

i really don't think any of these characters ever develop much...to say that the story is more about them is fine i guess, but that's still really stretching it and there's not a whole lot there to go on. you could just say it's an archetypal story of people overcoming their "destinies" and choosing their own ways to live life, but that's just a summary - and one that applies to an awful lot of jrpgs with better stories, too.

i don't think ffxiii is garbage or anything, it was fun and there's nothing about it i totally hate or anything. but not even i can call its story good. it's not just the way it's told - there's not very much there to tell to begin with. but a big part of it is the way it's told, yes. in that it isn't told. except in boring-ass summaries while the chapters are loading.

split their focus too much

PLEASEHELP1991

the series is really basically about how humans are tools for the fal'cie (the illuminati in this game)'s plan from the very beginning, just like how fans of final fantasy xiii are forced to buy every installment
I love [you]

i didnt say it was good either.
just that there was a story and it was horribly told.

all of what you said (kaz) is basically true. i never (intentionally) disputed otherwise.

the first nmh is great asshole
honestly I tried playing it again a couple of weeks ago and I barely understood what I was doing and much of it felt incredibly clunky and low-budget
I still wouldn't say it's  bad game but it certainly isn't very good

that would be real cool to see him live. Does he tour with a band? i really have no idea what he does nowadays.
