tec, you still have to play ffxiii and ffxiii-2 to understand the story of lightning returns: final fantasy xiii
no matter how badly convoluted their stories are
I love [you]

Now that I have some extra money I should go pick up xiii-2 before it disappears

The first step to ruining any remake of FFVII would be to change the battle system. I'm sorry but some of us like turned based RPG's.
xiii
i is turn based.
anyone who says otherwise hasnt played it.

I don't dislike ffxiii, though I don't really like playing as most of the characters
agreed
forcing you to play as certain characters for 2/3 of the game is stupid

so..... FF4 is stupid too?

for the time period ffxiii exists in, with open-world gameplay being an expectation, yes i'd say xiii is stupid

vii is arguably not a traditional turn-based jrpg either because vii and xiii run on versions of the ATB system, though in vii there is a wait mode option

wait mode or not, they are still turn based.
not trying to argue to be mean or anything, but xiii gets  a lot of unneccesary hate because people expected WAY too much out of it. just because it didnt deliver everything they expected doesnt make it a bad game, just a bit of a disappointment.
I dont think the game is like, 10/10 or anything, but i defintely enjoyed my time with it and its sequel
