I can agree with you for the first game since they really served no extreme purpose. But in the last 2 games, they were required to help you find secrets and shit.

every level in which they were required to use was at least twice as annoying as any regular level hocuspocus;

annoying because they're challenging? maybe, but i like the challenge.

animal antics is my favorite lost world level. squawks' shaft is my favorite crocodile cauldron level.  king zing sting is my favorite boss.

Probably one of DKC2's biggest appeals is its atmosphere. You have a haunted world, amusement park world, volcano world, and other interesting worlds on a creepy island that has a beam volcano inside of it. And the game is challenging, but generous. I don't think the challenge in the game starts until you reach Red Hot Ride. So they give you lots of time and chances to get you familiar with the style of the game (compared to DKC1). And the environment of each level is great (bramble levels, creepy forest levels, roller coasters levels). Back it all up with its soundtrack, and it really makes the game stand out.

I know I seem to praise the game a lot, but it does reach my top 5 favourite games for these reasons.

Samus Aran

same here, man, same here. it's easily in my top 5.

Nyerp

the mine cart levels in dkc2 were so easy

why did they have to change that for dkcr

WHY

Samus Aran

you mean rollercoaster levels n_u

they were easy, yes, but i found them much more interesting than the mine cart in dkc1...especially haunted hallway, what a fucking awesome level.

and honestly i like the entire soundtrack. it's all amazing.

Nyerp

oh wait you're in an amusement park lol n_u

also kaz did you beat the game this thread is about

Kalahari Inkantation

i've never played the original DKC games :'(

should i buy the original SNES versions or the GBA re-releases befuddlement

Samus Aran

original games. the music is a bit muffled and the graphics are slightly worse in the gba ones. at least, that's how it is for 2.
