A lot of countries suffered after World War I, it wasn't only Germany.  Sure the US may have seen false good times in its cities, but most Americans who lived off their farms suffered long before 1929.  confuseddood;
Yes, America suffered through the depression.  But American money wasn't used for staying warm.

i can't help but notice how appropriate the default Boyager rank image is to this discussion about Germany

It may not have, but much of Germany's problems can be traced back to how unfairly it was treated for its involvement in World War I.  huhdoodame;

It seemed only fair to me.  They should have done it again after WWII, but maybe more severe.

It seems they didn't.  How are we sure that they won't do it again?  Punishment should be consistent and increasing for the same offense, otherwise it won't work.

A crazy Austrian was able to take advantage of a downtrodden people, it's not crazy.  Germany was poor from the reparations forced upon it [and its allies] after the war and had only a token defence force for invasions, its people wanted somebody who inspired them, and unfortunately that was Hitler.

And today, Germans are among the least patriotic people in the world, I doubt they'll go on another conquest of Europe in our lifetimes.

Unfortunately this is true. They are ashamed of their past. The only times they are remotely patriotic is during soccer matches lol

It is very sad.  cry;

I remember how a lot of people edited a picture of Stephan Raab raising his arm to wave after Germany had won Eurovision [lol] to make it look like he was giving them the Hitler salute.  doodhuh;

It would be smart of them not to: they have failed each time. But you can never be too sure.

I predict it will continue to grow, slowly

Yeah this is an idiotic thing to say, the German populace was taken advantage of in the same way Americans went head over heels for FDR (what if he had been a fascist? good thing he wasn't because we still would have supported him), same story anywhere where there's a poor working population in depression and someone comes along promising great things

Calm your tits. It would teach a fine lesson to more than just Germans.

They may have failed.  But they have grown to be a better country from it.

Many countries didn't fail and grew to be great Empires just the same.
