Well their history has been more outstanding as far as great people and conquests.  I think they British are doing pretty well for themselves.  It also helps that they have some of the best Universities in the world and Europe.

History only goes so far.  Let's not forget Swedes used to be manly men who terrorised the rest of Northern Europe, look at what they've become now.  The British are doing okay, but Germany just came off its best quarter since Reunification.

Currently in some aspects.  Those countries have centuries of amazing history, Germany hasn't.  In fact, it helped start two horrible wars just to lose.  Germany is just OK no matter how you put it.
