Like I said I only dabble in the art of it. I cannot add effects and such, I can only write the music. It would have to be up to someone else for the artistry.

Well, the thing to remember is this isn't a humongous game, so it'll be limited to MIDI sound files.
We're not really picky. Imagine Paper Mario / Kirby music.

Well, I've done a few school plays 

However, acting is what I want to do as a career. So if this get's off the ground it'll be a good experience.

I can't name an open source game that's good, but letting anyone modify it in any way would let anyone improve upon it or build up an entirely new game from its foundations.

Like I said, I'm not the technical person, but I do believe it is an open source.
Garage Games has a product we're using, if I'm not mistaken.

That just means it's free and you'll distribute the source code i.e. all the plain programming and everything.
