Not entirely,  don't get tangled, and they generally last longer then corded, if you have a large room you can move around.

How are they supposed to last longer?

I'd imagine a controller with removable parts and nothing binding it to the system would be more easily broken.

Unless you sit 30 feet from the TV, or you're using Genesis controllers, wireless has no benefits aside from preventing clutter.

...Gamecube controllers do not have 30 feet of wire. In every case except my dorm room, I've had to sit on the edge of my seat so as to not accidentally pull the console while using a Gamecube controller. Their wires are really not all that long.
