Tricky question. If you're really serious about playing, get a intermediate or even low-end pro instrument. There's no point in punishing yourself with a "beginner" instrument.

What I would do is...

1) Lease/rent an intermediate instrument from a local music store, and get lessons. Most stores offer this. If you decide you really like it in a few months or a year, buy a good sax.

2) Find a good vintage sax in good condition. Old saxes are often cheap, and play extremely well. Just make sure you're getting one that's fixed up and ready to play.
