You could argue that Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band completely and utterly suck at everything, and other like Houdini will dare say the man's a god and helped change a bunch of shit or whatever.
I will also dare say that all members of the Magic Band were talented musicians who had a good deal of experience in other bands prior to being recruited by Beefheart.

Hey, that's not a half bad idea. You could just fill up a sax (soprano would probably work best) with paint, set up a canvass, and puff away.

It would only work with the lowest 2-3 notes (the only ones that actually force air down the length of the instrument), so that wouldn't make very interest music.  befuddlement

"Well" doesn't mean playing like Omar Rodriguez or some such guitar god. I've been playing bass for less than a year, and of course I can't do fancy slap-bass stuff or even complicated basslines, but for most bands my skill would get the job done. It's not rocket science.

And practically anyone can pick up a guitar and play power chords with a bit of guidance; doing fluid solos just take s a bit of practice and musical theory work. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's definitely a lot easier than any other instrument to play at a mediocre level.

The only instruments that are less hard than any others are the drums and the harmonica. Everyone knows this.

All others, whether it be Saxophone, Guitar, Bass, Violin, Piano, etc. all take a huge amount of skill to be truly good at. And no only physical skill, physical skill is only 1% of it. It's the intelligence to be able to make good music, and channel all your energy into the instrument while playing.

ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS fuck

exactly.

If my music or writing career doesn't have a big payoff, I still have my 2n'd grade drawings for a cushion.
