Who thinks these are legit?
i haven't touched a pokémon since gen 2
are X/Y any good?
x/y got me back into pokemon after not even finishing gold/silver, so take that for what you will.
i played a bit of Y but got bored pretty quick. the only gen i've never played was ruby/saphire, and black/white are my faves since gold/silver.
im interested to see what the hubub is for these new ones, but i hope it's not more of the same cuz im kinda bored of it at this point
yeah really hoping they keep progressing the series, black and white did an alright job of that, as did X and Y
but yeah I just came to post this, guess we'll see tomorrow
black and white had a good (for a pokemon game) story, i really hope they MAKE A GOOD NARRATIVE for this one
pokemon square and circle
pokemon big and small
pokemon mom and dad
pokemon coke and pepsi
pokemon salt and pepper

i finished x/y in two days and then the élite four the next day
i've owned aqua sapphire for over a year and have not beaten the first gym
so
I got through both x and alpha sapphire relatively quickly.
Really enjoyed both. Although, I do still have that post game to finish.....

are you defending gen 4
granted, gen 4 did introduce the new battle mechanics that massively improved the entire pokemon experience (most notably the new categorization for special attacks vs physical ones). but i didn't really appreciate having to trudge through swamps.
no he's pointing out in his david way that sapphire was gen 3, you meant platinum n_u
ohhh oops lmao
yeah platinum
7/10 too much swamp
The last gen I played was 4 but I haven't had a working DS or any 3DS since that so
i still like to follow the series tho
i'm curious about the new mystery dungeon games :0
do any pokemon games actually have good online modes yet? i remember being stoked about diamond and pearl online and being really damn disappointed

I haven't played any of them, but I've heard good things about Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, usually with comments saying it's possibly the best in the series.
Some of the other games like Gates of Infinity had a much less favorable reception.

In Gen4 games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver), online play was available in the form of either GTS or friend codes.
Pokémon Battle Revolution (the Wii game) and Black/White (Gen5) introduced random battles, so you can just connect and battle anyone. Battles have had the typical variety of rulesets available and Single/Double/Triple/Rotation battle options. Various battle facilities and minigames use support online play too.
X/Y (Gen6) introduced the "PSS" (Player Search System), which is visible on the touchscreen for most of the overworld gameplay. When online, you see a list of online friends, acquaintances, and "passersby" (random people) and you have the ability to request battles/trades and send them miscellaneous gameplay boosts like gain more exp or hatch eggs faster.
Gen6 also introduced "Rating Battles", which are special events of a temporary online battle competition of sorts, often with very specialized rulesets. For example, in the next one on March 4, participants can only use the first 149 pokémon. The previous one restricted teams to pokémon that are Red, Green, or White-colored (it was festive-themed).
Pokémon is still, of course, fundamentally not a cooperative game. People always ask for and never get a "Pokémon MMO" with details like seeing other players in the overworld. Thanks to the 3DS's architectural limitations, even keeping your game connected during single-player gameplay is somewhat of a hassle since it never auto-connects in the background.
Random Pokemon battles sounds pretty tight actually
I'm so behind with Pokemon
Announcements:
* Yes, Sun/Moon are real
* Releasing on 3DS near the end of 2016
* Works with Pokémon Bank
* Instead of saying anything about the new games, let's remind people to buy Red/Blue again
Red/Blue/Yellow also work with Pokebank!

It's a little surprising, but not groundbreaking.
There's really nothing worth transferring over from Gen1.
Notably, they announced that transfers from Gen1 cannot be withdrawn from Gen6 games. You can only withdraw them into Sun/Moon. That really doesn't make much sense to me, considering nothing about Gen6 should be inadequate for storing these and these VC releases are happening so long before Sun/Moon.

I guess it's worth trying maybe
but it's almost certain that they'll block impossible pokemon, like:
* pokedex number of 0 or >151
* level > 100
Impossible moves might have a chance of making it through, but I doubt it.
They could even do something like Stadium and convert Missingnos to dittos.
I think this announcement is actually kinda funny, because only a day or two ago, i was talking to kaz about how we haven't had a new main pokemon in a while, let alone news of one.

The Gen1 games have enough exploits that players can, without any cheating device, do absolutely anything they want to the game's memory if they know how.
Want a Fire-type Bulbasaur? You can do that. A Diglett that knows Fly? Go ahead. Want to rewrite the game into Tetris? It takes a while, but it's doable.

Sun and Moon are proper Pokémon games on 3DS in which you can catch Pokémon, trade, and transfer forward your Pokémon from existing games. They introduce new locations and new Pokémon species.
Beyond that, it's vague. Do we have 8 gyms, an Elite Four, a villainous team, a legendary from the boxart? Six Pokémon on your team at once, held items, the same battle system we've always had, three starter Pokémon that are grass/fire/water? Probably, but unconfirmed.

Come to think of it, considering how much The Pokémon Company is really pushing for gen1 nostalgia this year, I wouldn't put it past them to implement Missingno in Bank/Sun/Moon as an easter egg for people who transfer it over from Gen1.
The biggest reason I'd doubt it is that Missingno is very different between American and Japanese games; Japan doesn't have the memorable backwards-L-shaped appearance and I don't think their glitches are as well-known.

I just made those up. I know they're all possible, but I don't know the exact procedure to get them and don't feel like examining/calculating it out.
Pokémon Bank already has very extensive legitimacy checks for imports from Gen5 games. I imagine they'll do the same for Gen1 imports and block anything with types, levels, moves, dex numbers, etc. that it doesn't like. In particular, with the way the data structure works in newer games, even if they tried to import a Fire-type Bulbasaur its typing data would just get discarded anyway.

I don't think you can switch types legitimately and I dunno about moves but there is a bunch of funky stuff yeah. But the Mew is legit, no fakeness or false IDs

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_data_structure_in_Generation_I
For Pokémon you already own, full RAM control (the most generic exploit there is) can let you manipulate all of these fields. Even though it's seemingly redundant with the data from the table of species data, each creature does have its own type fields that can conflict with what newly-generated/legitimate creatures of that species should have.
Full RAM control can be had with either interrupting a save and rearranging a huge inventory or by obtaining and using a glitch item that offers arbitrary code execution.
Of course, messing with this data directly is very likely to give you results that very obviously don't look like a legitimate Pokémon. Something like that Mew is a wild encounter, so as long as the ID and level are appropriate it looks mostly fine. Because Mew is an event-only Pokémon, though, Bank can easily be designed to verify that the particular Mew you're importing matches the events they're planning in terms of OT and IVs, or it might simply reject all Mews from English games since that's a Japan-only event.
Lol... pokemon s&m...

idk about this. i mean for just playing through the games it would be cool to have five or six yeah. but competitive play would be all the more complicated if suddenly more moveslots are available.
i guess it would be cool if there was some sort of system set up where, you can have more moves normally, but once you battle someone online you have to narrow down your pokemon's moves to four. but that would also make it take so much longer to set up matches lol

I think the game would more complex, in a good way, competitive or otherwise with more move slots.
Yeah you'd have more ways to be op, but you'd also have more ways to work around it I think.
I feel like the only thing they need to keep consistent between games is 6 pokemon per team and 4 moves per pokemon.

how about you can "save" up to 10 or something, but you can only equip 4 at a time? that way you wouldn't have to just reserve a pokemon for HMs or any of that nonsense, have more options, but it keeps the battle system stable.

yeah really, black and white made a few changes and it worked out great, and for x and y, while they eventually lost my interest, I loved all the changes they made. Even despite finally mixing the game up just a bit, the series still feels a bit stale.

Honestly, Leafgreen/Firered were my least favorites behind Diamond and Pearl. It was less colorful than Ruby/Sapphire, the sprites were the worst in the series imo, the Seven Islands were dumb, and I feel like they didn't do much to make Kanto feel updated.
Idk I felt like it somehow had more personality in black and white than in color because they kept the map the exact same so they ended up repeating A LOT of trees and bushes which is way more noticeable in color
IMO
