Title: Mighty No. 9
Post by: bluaki on August 31, 2013, 07:21:21 PM
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9
(https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/876/919/a1d0e45fc7a68f4c962f2ebcd7a2210c_large.jpg?1377909641)
Some former Mega Man developers are making a new platforming game that totally looks like Mega Man but isn't. They're going for actually modern-looking artwork and it's being developed for primarily PC, probably getting other ports depending on how well the kickstarter goes (Linux/Mac are very likely at $1.35m, console versions less so at $2.5m)

I haven't even played Mega Man games yet but this looks promising. Also, Japanese people always ignore Linux and I'm surprised to see it probably getting this.

this is going to be great

i highly doubt the game will look anywhere near as good as the screenshots but it would be cool if it did

well damn that looks great, though i'd say that character design is a bit too similar to megaman

I think it's a jab at Capcom because of the similar designs.

this project is headed by the creator of megaman. he left capcom because they were completely incompetent but they own the rights to megaman.

so the point is to make a true megaman sequel without using the name

the stretch goal for Mac/Linux versions has been reached n_n

They still need to raise another million dollars to get console support. They probably will get there near the end of the month.

Wait, what about Ouya is a scam? I believe they delivered on everything they promised: a tiny cheap low-power developer-friendly console based on Android with its own app store and accompanying controller.

The problem is just, like every other device matching that same description, it can't play get close to matching the power of regular consoles let alone PCs
which means nobody's going to port non-indie current-gen console games to it
which means nobody's going to buy it
which means even games that could run on its hardware have less reason to
And it doesn't have anything else going for it, like Netflix or any other streaming service or anything like a shared account with smartphones (like Google and Apple have on their TV boxes).

Comcept decided to provide an excuse for the demo delay:
* They had "last-minute complications with distributing through Steam"
* They saw feedback saying people prefer to have a demo that is DRM-free and not time-limited
* It takes some time to "retool the demo" to remove DRM and prepare it for distribution through Humble Bundle

I'm not sure what kind of DRM takes more than a day for the original developers to remove, but whatever. They claim the demo was ready in time in all other ways but distribution method.

i'm watching CalebHart (renonwned MegaMan speedrunner) play this on twitch right now...and it's kind of sad. the game visibly does not look very fun to play but him and his devout subs are just all like GUYS NO, THE REVIEWERS ARE WRONG, THEY JUST DONT LIKE HARD GAMES, THIS GAME IS AWESOME and it just reeks of that time when i first got red steel for wii and wanted it so bad to be awesome, but after a week i was like "yeah guys you're right it's kind of shit isn't it"

Apparently it's worst issues are poor level design (a terrible thing for a mega man game to have) and, from what I gather, frustrating bosses (also very bad for mega man).
isn't that mega man's thing though?

no, mega man bosses are historically very easy if you use their weaknesses against them, they're hard without them though

so, you know, being taught by getting your ass kicked the first time, trying out a different level, etc. learning process.

but what I meant was, from what I read, the bosses have attacks where you have to mash buttons I guess, and if you don't do it right, you basically die I think.

Basically, I think they meant they're cheap.

But other sources say the bosses in this are the best part. So idk

actually after watching like 2 hours of streams for this game last night for some fucking reason, it looks okay. like i wouldnt pay 20 bucks for it, but like, i might pick it up for 7.50 or so. it's janky as hell, but it does seem like it has a little bit of the soul of a megaman game in there, i dunno

Linux version delayed
Mac version delayed
360 version delayed
PS4 and PS3 versions are out, but backers can't redeem it today
Vita version is heavily delayed
3DS version is heavily delayed
Wii U version is unplayable

That leaves... Windows and Xbox One? Are those the only two platforms that actually "work" out of the 10 that should've been out?

I imagine that the amazingly high number of people who can't wait to play this game and didn't back this kickstarter are very excited to buy that physical PS4 version today.

The people who did back the kickstarter for the PlayStation version got codes today that don't work.
