idk. I guess because I consider the handheld marios to be their own thing, and 3d land was that, and 3d world was a sequel to that, but on console.

Like I said, I don't disagree, making my earlier statement not fully correct.

there was a large swatch of GAF today that was fucking livid that the "multiplayer" was relegated to a 'let your brother play' bucket bitch-esque role instead of being full on co-op mode



i for one totally expected this when they said they teased the game was multiplayer lol

I mean in Mario galaxy player 2 had to collect star pieces and that was it lol this is way better.

Also better than sonic where tails constantly gets run off screen but I still play that shit

I mean Super Mario World kinda had multiplayer, but I can see why with this game they wouldn't just let multiple players loose in an open world like this

i actually only just watched this particular trailer for the first time

the brilliance of nintendo's trial-and-error game design shines through in their recycling of well-received things like the wall-merging concept first seen in a link between worlds, the popularity of 2d mario that was reinvigorated by mario maker, the possession-via-hat that's partly minish cap, partly [insert nintendo game in which player-controlled possession occurs, i actually can't think of a popular example so maybe that's novel lol ]

But I am still truly disgusted by the juxtaposition of stylized humanoid Mario characters with natural-looking real-world humans. it's just so vomit-inducing and sonic adventure 2-ish

still, i like virtually everything else i've seen about mario odyssey, it's clearly the switch's flagship title of 2017

cute boxart though I wonder why the bottom is just a red block, if it were a table in the ship that the photos were laying on or something that would be neat
also the hat is prominently shown twice which is silly
