RPG fighting is pretty dull to me anyways but EB shows age in that category specifically.

Playing Paper Mario TTYD and the fighting is also dull.

also Earthbound fighting isn't too dull, idk what it is but i really like it. maybe it's just the enemy design or the changing backgrounds

Earthbound has a lot of charm, and it's and RPGer's RPG. They play to the player's expectation of what and RPG is and flip it on its head.
