once John and I can play Smash, probably starting Monday, I expect a lot of matches with Boyagers

And I hope it'll actually work, as I hear the online isn't any more stable than the 3DS version's.

to be fair, if the match begins smoothly, it will usually stay that way for the match.
basically, you'll know right away if a match will lag or not
