A usable computer is 1 gig, a decent computer is 2 gigs, 3 is very nice, 4 is crazy good, anything higher is unnecessary.

The computer that I used for four straight years prior to a few months ago had 512mb of ram spam;

Well you didn't have Windows XP family edition with 10 different accounts that my brother made slowing yours down.

let me rephrase this, i can barely afford a cheap socket 775 motherboard :'(
i need like $40-50 to get at least a halfway decent one and that money is scarce, especially with my job
