Provided that it was required to watch as part of Sci-Fi, it was pretty good.

why would you watch that one and not the 50s one? that new one is just typical modern Spielberg emptiness. i honestly do not know why it was made other than to make money and for Spielberg to geek out a bit. it's the kind of film where there's nothing inherently wrong with it, but it does nothing that wasn't already done better elsewhere...pretty boring.

the 50s film seems like it would be much more relevant to a course on sci-fi considering it is a landmark in special effects and even won an academy award for said special effects. it's certainly one of the most culturally relevant sci-fi films from the 50s.
