I've been going through a bunch of VC games on my Wii U and 3DS waiting for MK8.

I've actually almost beat the original Legend of Zelda.  hocuspocus;
how did gaming get any farther than the 80's?  akudood;
Kalahari Inkantation

i ask myself the same thing

having first played and completed it in like 2004, i didn't really see the appeal in the original zelda either, but i guess that's to be expected considering its age

I'm getting far because of the internet.
How did people do this then? Wandering aimlessly?

word of mouth

But how the original people did it is still a mystery

Kalahari Inkantation

yeah, i would most certainly have given up on it and zelda 2 pretty quickly if not for the the internet's help lol

even back in the the 80s when they were novel i'm not sure i would have stuck with them because i can't stand wandering aimlessly and feeling like i'm making no progress in games
i play video games to escape that very feeling
which i why i probably couldn't get through the the souls games either without some general guidance lol (and why i probably won't touch dark souls ii until months after it's been released), even though the the franchise's return to 80s-style crypticness is one aspect of the the series fans seem to adore most

but i hate being given the the runaround because i just feel like i'm wasting time that could be spent making actual progress
lol, in this sense i am the the world's biggest kazual
Thyme

without a walkthrough i would have headed straight for the catacombs

smgdh

Samus Aran

it shouldn't really be that hard to guess that the reason the enemies there are too powerful is because you're not supposed to go there first

at which point you should look for other areas to go instead???

directionless maybe, but trial-and-error should eventually single out a path for you lol

jesus guys

Thyme

i am not denying that i'm a fucking idiot

but i did come to this conclusion and did explore the firelink shrine plenty, the stairs leading to the undead village was just in some mental blind spot for me, idfk :(
it also took a walkthrough to tell me about the stairs leading to the new londo ruins >.<
