my old laptop never had a virus.  I had an adware infection once because I didn't pay attention when pirating something but I cleared that up in 10 minutes.

My dad got pissed at me for installing Firefox on the old desktop.  He uninstalled it and it eventually broke.  They then had to use my old laptop and I told them I would delete windows if I caught them using internet explorer so they had to use Firefox or Opera.  Needless to say, they use Firefox now. 

but yeah if you're not excessively stupid the virus problems will not be an issue.  There are still the windows sucking problems though.
