I'm never aware that I'm dreaming when I'm dreaming until I wake up and remember it a few moments after. I've handled every situation in my dreams as would if it were real. And all my dreams are never in one area, it usually starts in one area and ends up being a totally different area.. and never are they places I can recognize.

I honestly have no specific way of determining it. There are times I regret not taking actions in dreams. caterpie;
I've had multiple dreams where I'm in the presence of a really hot woman, but i think it's real, so I don't act on anything.  All while I'm thinking in my mind "holy shit if this was a dream i'd rip her clothes off and fuck her". Then I wake up, and realize it was a dream. It pisses me off a bit. :'(
