yes, video games are what we were discussing

bluaki

Recently purchased: SD2Vita so I can, with homebrew, use my microSD card as a memory card for my Vita
Recently deceased: My 64GB Sony memory card for Vita. rip.

that piece of junk memory card cost me almost $90 less than 3 years ago and a new one would cost even more now akudood;
I have tons of cheap microSD cards that have been through orders of magnitude more wear than this Vita memory card and I've never had a microSD card fail.

I just barely wasn't able to back up the data from that memory card before it died. It's been on its way out for a few weeks with random stutters/lag and occasional errors needing a reboot or whatever. Thanks to splitting my game time between Vita and Vita TV, thankfully there aren't many games whose save files I didn't already have backed up.

On the downside, Vita's PSN store has a terrible interface for the use-case of "I want to redownload every single Vita, PSP, and PSOne title I own."

beat mega man x3. here's some positive and negative points about the game:

positives:
-it mega man

negatives:
-lackluster level design
-poor enemy variety and placement
-ride armors are pretty much useless
-the chip system akudood;
-worse music than both previous games
-bit, byte, and godkarmachine o inary (lol) fights are all terrible
-the x buster "upgrade" is lame
-sigma is 2hard :'(

Just beat A Link Between Worlds and it was great.

THE GOOD:
This was best-feeling controls of any Zelda I've played (I've not played either of the DS titles, Triforce Heroes, or BotW). The item system at first kind of made me nervous but that coupled with the open-world any-dungeon-any-time ended up making it work really well, in the sense that having access to whichever items you want at whatever point really works. ESPECIALLY since you can carry thousands of rupees at once. The economy in this game actually functioned properly. I never felt like I had a godly amount of rupees (the most I ever had at one time was maybe 3-4000) and sometimes I was actually hurting for them if I was having trouble with an area and had to keep renting/buying items. But that also served as an incentive for you to not go to the harder areas until you get stronger.

THE BAD:
Unfortunately most of the items are useless for 90% of the game. Did you know there's a boomerang in this game? Why? Sand rod? Tornado rod? Fire rod? Ice rod? They help you get maybe one or two alien babies outside of their intended dungeon and that's it. I barely even used my bow in this game. Pretty much the whole game is built around hitting shit with your sword, plus the occasional "aw shit I forgot to grab the hookshot so this guy's gonna be a pain" enemy. You have every item available to you from the beginning. Build some overworld puzzles around that. Theme entire sections around certain items. There's no excuse not to. There's so much wasted potential here it honestly upsets me. This is what they needed to do to make it feel like its own game.

THE PRESTIGE:
Let's talk about dungeons for a second. I'm honestly totally fine with the way the dungeons treated the items, with you approaching the dungeon with its necessary item already on hand. If you fuck up, you gotta go get it again, but that's why the easier dungeons are easier to get to. So you can go rent the stuff and try again, and then do the harder dungeons once you have the option/funds to buy items. Cool. A couple of the dungeons (desert temple, thieves' hideout) have a little too much copy/paste. I get that they're trying to pay homage to the original game, but I'd rather feel like I'm having a whole new experience rather than a soft remake.

Also am I getting older and expecting more, or are dungeons in Zelda games getting simpler overall? Ice Tower was my favorite part of the whole game. It was kind of annoying because it was a fucking ice level, but it was complex and took a fair amount of time and thought to complete. More of those please. Bosses were kind of weak too but there were some neat ones. The final boss was really cool but piss easy, which was disappointing.

SPOILERS: HIGHLIGHT TO READ:
Hilda being evil was telegraphed so hard that I kind of rolled my eyes when it happened. Her motivations were actually great though, and that surprised me. I can't remember if there has been another truly sympathetic villain in a Zelda game. Ravio being the Lorule version of Link fucking blindsided me and I loved it. He's a bunny! It's right there!

Good ending overall. I complained a lot here but there's much more that I didn't mention that I quite enjoyed.

8/10 I guess.
