good competitively
i do see veteran melee players playing and supposedly enjoying it but it still looks fairly slow and i dont see a lot of cool combos when i tune in

it's wayyyyyy faster than Brawl or 4. And has pseudo wavedashing. And only one air dodge (though not helpless after). And the more you dodge the slower your dodge becomes so it's no longer a roll fest.

It is probably a little worse for a number of characters though because they increased launch speed across the board so it is harder to guarantee a combo

the scene is surprisingly pretty strong with a lot going on and gameplay-wise there's a lot more movement options than brawl or 4 like ypr said, i would say give it a shot. basically the only real problem is trying to be competitive online cause it ain't free anymore.
