bcuz this is the tech board now
does anyone know of a good one or use a good one? i dont like talking about drugs over facebook messenger and id like to use something more secretive
whats the one glenn used brb
oh ok so glenn used multi level encryption. so that's not appropriate. here's what his people recommend https://theintercept.com/2015/03/02/signal-iphones-encrypted-messaging-app-now-supports-text/
laura uses this
https://otr.cypherpunks.ca/
try not to overdose on marijuana!! also whatsapp supposedly uses encryption.
cool ill look into that first one. now to convince all my friends to stop using facebook messenger (impossible)
are you worried about US agencies or ones from thailand, cuz i doubt they give a fuck about foreign ginger david using and talking about drugs in the middle of a quasi civil war/junta coup at the moment.
nah us agencies but thai jail is still very scary
weed is still super illegal here but i hear you can easily pay off cops 20k baht if you get caught and they forget it
that blows my mind. a country known for prostitution, corruption and labor exploitation makes weed highly illegal wtf don't thais drink or do other things we would consider 'drugs'?

the hypocrisy in thai culture is unreal. maybe when i'm not in thailand and not scared of getting arrested ill post some stuff about the government lol
yeah definitely stop. do they chew the red thing out there? in india there's this thing called betel nut that is like tobacco that lots of people chew that's a sort of drug it provides some sort of calming affect. but people don't think it's a drug because it's not weed or opium or whatever
that reminds me of khat that the arabs chew on, similar but it's supposed to be stimulant.

kratom is super common here (i read a while back that 3/4ths of males use it) but it is also super illegal. apparently it grows really well here
it was funny because when i was into kratom in the states i was planning on going to thailand and was like fuck it will be impossible to get even though that's where it grows. now it is illegal back home :(
just send someone a paper letter with a big padlock on it

how do they open the padlock?
i use signal
doesnt whatsapp also have encryption?

how do they open the padlock?
with psychic powers
anyway whenever i watch old movies and they show carrier pigeon delivering secret messages complete with bad-ass little canisters attached to their legs i always marvel at the past and man's ingenuity.
might not be as efficient as today but how fucking cool would it be to have a pigeon just show up at your window sill, bringing with it information from a faraway source and heralding an important development.
hmm i just got an idea. today you could use a mini drone to deliver physical messages back and forth from one location to another! and with a carefully operated scheme it might not be too vulnerable to detection or compromise. sort of like a 21st century version of what they used back then.
i remember being fascinated with covert encryption and delivery of secretive information a few years back, reading up on cold war stuff. i forget who it was, i think leonardo davinci, but maybe benjamin franklin, wrote a diary completely backward so that you could only read it with a mirror reflecting the message correctly back to you. i even wrote a few encrypted letters only readable with my own key that i made up, comprised of standard english. nothing challenging for a computer but for pen and paper and mind still impressive as 26x26 gives 676 possible combinations for each character.
now imagine adding in numbers and an endless variety of your own symbols aka the zodiac.
foreign numbers stations broadcast radio signals from outside a country into it at pre planned times and frequencies that are only known to the covert agent and their handler. this reduces the chances of anyone else listening in unless it is by luck. the spy would write down the message, usually a series of nonsensical alphanumeric lines that could only be deciphered with a pre determined key in the possession of said spy.
there are a few of these still in use today, allegedly. look up a mysterious station broadcasting out of russia and one out of north korea. fascinating stuff.
look how daunting even a simple message with repetitive words using only a basic key is
not spaced out

You'd be shocked how quickly a computer program can break a cipher like this.
and for david uh i guess it depends on if you're willing to trust the app's encryption or not.
Or if you wanna just roll everything into PGP

I'm associate director of a state agency doing computer security baddood;
a quick search doesn't really show what algorithm they're using for encryption on whatsapp. i'm guessing whatsapp or signal are using "good enough" encryption but like you're still risking someone losing their phone.

actually im pretty sure whatsapp is literally using the exact same encryption as signal. also signal is edward snowden-approved xD
how does one get a job in cyber security do you have to get a degree in it or do you just need to know stuff

well for me. i lucked out.
we had a breach right after i graduated and the CIO offered me a 6 month contract position to work on the new information security team (then it got extended another 6 months, then full time) but I had only studied computer science.
there's so much job growth that there's more open positions than people qualified in the field.
though a lot of companies don't pay as much as they should because they under allocate resources

is the work interesting? i was making youtube videos with a certain large television giant, in a small office with small teams, staff pretty young too, and i literally had like 5 things to do a day that took maybe 2-3 hours tops. i didn't like it, the rest of the time was spent sitting trying to look busy, and nobody socialized ever so yeah, that gave me doubts about media work.

yeah lots of problem solving though if you hate having to deal with compliance with standards, laws, and policies, it can get tedious
Previously I dealt more with analysis and incident response which is fun. After the promotion a good chunk of policy and admin stuff got dumped on me. boohoo
