Quote from: YoshidaIn 2011 the progress became super slow. There were lots of technical issues. The game was not performing at speed. The video we showed, the trailer on PS3, was specced up. The game was running at a much lower frame rate. Some features were still missing. It was clear that the team had to make a compromise in terms of features.
what an interesting thing for him to admit
i mean in retrospect it's amazing we were ever gullible enough to believe this was going to run on ps3, but to just nonchalantly admit that the original video was completely fabricated, lol

i like to look at shadow of the colossus and it's 15 fps most of the time
anyway now that we have TWO WHOLE gameplay videos, was anybody else hoping to see a healthy mix of elements from both ico and sotc and not simply a modernized ico with a dogbirdrat yorda
i mean the fact that the creature is massive and climbable is the only sotc influence i've even seen here thus far, i'm really hoping it goes deeper than that (because tbh as much as i like ico i think sotc is a far better game, i would prefer an sotc with ico puzzle/platforming embellishments than an ico with sotc embellishments)

my main gripe is that when sony first revealed this game, they suggested that it would be incorporating elements from both ico and shadow of the colossus
but ten years later and it still just looks like ico 2.0, the legacy of sotc remains virtually imperceptible
i mean sure you're able to mount a large animal but that in and of itself isn't unique in the slightest
as great as ico is, i think sotc is the vastly superior game, so i'm very disappointed to see that gameplay-wise tlg is just another team ico-style puzzle platformer and barely resembles sotc at all
i hope i'm wrong but none of the promo material thus far suggests otherwise

but who knows, they could go completely off the wall with this game

Lol gamers are crazy
to be fair, i consider shadow of the colossus the closest to 'high art' video games have ever come and i doubt they will ever come remotely close to topping it lol
Maybe they should make a sotc but with better horse controls.

well, I'm sorry too, but the fact that the horse moves realistically doesn't make it fun when it suddenly decides to go a different direction you didn't intend, or suddenly stops because there is a slight bump in the road.
The horse controls are mostly fine. But it has some annoyances that could have been fixed.
that's all I'm trying to say. If you think there's nothing wrong with it, then fine, you do.
I guess what I'm also trying to say, is not so much about the controls themselves, but rather the horse behavior.
So, sorry i shared my one personal flaw with this game.

When we played The Last Guardian at E3, we suggested it was "an incomplete opus." During a 45-minute play session, we encountered some severe camera problems, graphical glitches, collision issues and a physics bug that propelled the protagonist 20 feet into the air. Hopefully the extra six weeks is enough time for Ueda and the rest of his team to get the game up to standards.
yeah i'm not holding out for anything else coming out this year to be actually good at this point lmao

QuoteMany of my problems with this short demo of The Last Guardian can be summed up neatly in one sentence: It feels like a PlayStation 2 game. I love a lot of PlayStation 2 games, but in the decade-plus since that was my console of choice, I've grown used to such novelties as responsive character movement and a camera that isn't shitty.

yeah, but this is team ico.
Both of their previous games had unresponsive character movement and at least, not great cameras.
i mean that's true, but it's also 2016, not 2005, where semi-janky controls and camera movements were part of the normal gaming experience for the most part. it's a valid criticism.

it comes with the review kit
would be nice if it came with general release of the game too but no word on that
WE'RE MERE HOURS AWAY FROM THE REVIEW E M B A R G O L I F T B O Y S
PLACE YOUR BETS!!!!
im optimistic, the PSX trailer actually made it seem like a damn game and the previews ive heard thus far have been mostly positive, so I'm hoping for solid 8s here
which would be cool cuz then i have a use for this best buy b2g1 sale lololol
lmao 6.5 from jim
lmao reviews are all over the fucking place, some people are like 10/10 GOAT!!! and there's been a few 4/10s too lol. all in all it's settled in the low 80s on average, so probably gonna pick it up since SotC is like my top 3 vidjas, so whatever
u think i've actually read a review instead of just looked at the number???? pffft
ive read them its basically ico with "chase sequences". so ico with a plot.
id probably rent it. send it back to blockbuster after a week, idk.
read a couple reviews now, sounds like kind of a mix of ico and SotC, leaning much heavier on the ico side as at its core it's a puzzle-platforming action game. you climb on your giant dog like he's a colossus tho, and control him for most of the combat, which is much better than ico's shit combat was.
apparently the dog runs entirely on AI and not pre-scripted sequences, so he can be a dumbass sometimes. controls are typical clunky shit for a team ico game so that sucks but not unexpected. and apparently it has some garbo frame drops on normie ps4's, but as a bloodborne player i guess i'll live lol
Quote from: ADX on December 05, 2016, 09:57:07 AM
blockbuster
lol. but yeah it's like 13 hours long so if you're not a collector than yeah it's probably a good rental. on the other hand it's like twice as long as shadow of the colossus, so that 7 years went to somethin i guess!!!
I like that apparently making Trico "realistic" is what drags the experience down the most, since he doesn't always listen to you, from what I read
In all honesty though, I never thought that these guys' games were perfect.
I loved ICO, and of course I LOVED SotC, but they had control issuesm they had camera/framerate issues (mostly fixed by the HD collection), and they had things not everyone could get past, like the "no enemies in SotC aside from bosses, or the no enemies really at all in ICO, except when you have to defend Yorda.
It just seems to me that reviewers are less forgiving this time around because they've kinda seen this twice before.
But IDK.
From what I can gather, If you like ICO, you'll know almost exactly what to expect here.
It also kinda surprises me that THIS game turned out to be the disappointing, "Long Development Cycle" game instead of FF XV
Yeah, at this point I'm feeling like FFXV is underrated and I think a lot of people get the same vibe. The plot has some Sonic 06-ness to it, but it's a solid jrpg, almost reminds me of ToS for some reason. Just a bunch of dudes traveling around having a good time.
I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "Sonic 06 vibe."
the empire! oh no, evil generic medieval guards! these bad guys have no souls so its ok if we kill them.
also the character design + animation for NPCs is very sonic 06.
I wanna buy it...but Im still not done with FFXV

oh i see. Yeah, especially with npc's lol.
But I really like the simplicity of the story, especially after the convoluted xiii
also flying battleships that aren't animated
yeah i think lack of story is alright, makes it appeal more to the older crowd. i dont play jrpgs anymore specifically because of the plot

I GOT THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION YESTERDAY
The figure and art book are niiiiiiiiiiice
Played the game on David's PS4 for like 3 hours and it's amazing so far
i started playing probably a little over 2 hours in
i'm kind of...bored? like the controls are fucking awful, trico just slows everything down, and the rest just feels like the worst parts of 'wheres the ledge i can latch onto?' parts of uncharted.
i dunno im gonna play through to the end as a SotC fanatic and hope theres a tasty plot in this somewhere, but man it's kind of painful tbh
looks nice though! (when the framerate doesn't drop out!)

I like how everyone who likes this game is like, "the controls are a bit awkward, but you get used to them."

uhhhhh I'm saying the button layout is odd in this game vs perfect in sotc and solid in ico
button layout isn't the same at all really
