So I was reading this article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/post/record-smashing-cold-in-interior-alaska-fairbanks/2011/11/17/gIQA9ZMqUN_blog.html
and I got to this part:
Quote... coastal Alaska, where most Alaskans live, has a relatively mild climate influenced by the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. Alaska’s capital city, Juneau, is more like Vancouver, British Columbia, than some frozen chunk of Middle America -- say Chicago. President Barack Obama is from Chicago; it’s why he likes to visit Hawaii so much. Alaska, obviously, can’t match Hawaii for warmth, but Anchorage -- the state’s largest city -- beats the heck out of Minneapolis. The average winter temperature in Anchorage is 26 degrees -- more than twice as warm as the 10-degree average for the Minnesota city always trying to promote its high quality of life. Right. If you’re a polar bear.
On the other hand, if you compare the forecast for Anchorage (highs in the 5-25 degree range) versus Minneapolis (highs in the 30 to 45 degree range) for the next week, I’d sure rather spend my Thanksgiving in the good ole contiguous U.S. than in the Last Frontier...
AND I WAS LIKE THE FUCK THAT'S TOTALLY NOT RIGHT ASSHOLE. So I looked it up and did the calculations, and posted this comment:
"Where are you getting your data on average temperatures in Minneapolis and Anchorage? According to NOAA (http://cdo.ncdc.noaa.gov/climatenormals/clim20/mn/... and http://cdo.ncdc.noaa.gov/climatenormals/clim20/ak/... your assertion that "The average winter temperature in Anchorage is 26 degrees -- more than twice as warm as the 10-degree average for [Minneapolis]" doesn't line up.
Based on data collected by NOAA 1971-2000, the average low Dec 1-Feb 28 in Minneapolis was 9 degrees, compared to 10.8. Likewise, the average highs in the same period are very similar, at 25.9 in Minneapolis and 23.9 in Anchorage. Anchorage actually has a much longer "winter" than Minneapolis-- if we look at the same data, but from Nov 1-March 31, we see that Minneapolis is looking at 10.36 and 32.56, whereas Anchorage averages 13.3 and 26.6.
I guess it's pretty cool that a publication like the Washington Post is okay with publishing blatantly false information. Gotta love that East Coast elitism slandering the rest of the county."
FUCK YOU JASON SAMENOW. FUCK YOU WASHINGTON POST. FUCK YOU THE EAST COAT. FUCK YOU ALL.
everything to the south and west of virginia does not exist
Also, I RTFA and you should be criticizing the Alaska Dispatch, not Jason Samenow.
yeah, it is pretty stupid to imply that Anchorage has a nicer quality of life in the winter than Minneapolis... but false facts and brash comments in the washington pos?T :D
also East Coast is superior to the rest of planet. fyi

I'm not sure what you mean. This is just blatantly false: "The average winter temperature in Anchorage is 26 degrees -- more than twice as warm as the 10-degree average for the Minnesota city"

I have heard of you, ma'am.
And here I thought East Coast bias only applied to sports. What a funny debate n_u
It just depends on who you hang with, or associate with or choose to look up to. The is a vast and unequal distribution of wealth, life and happiness on the East Coast, but this is a developed country and the contrast is stark. And yet everyone goes on about their day with surprising reliability. It is really quite admirable. It gives me hope but that is tampered with the thought that this present order is not legitimate. And we must restart anew. I really love it here, close to the Atlantic, the beautiful leafy trees and the endless streets. The only think I lament is the girls, they're a very regretful bunch. I suppose it is a result of their environment, a strange mixture in a strange century. I would not raise a child here near a populated area.

Yeah, I'd agree girls from the city are much more likely to have some rather... undesirable personality traits

Sometimes I want to visit there just because I think it's cool that the ground's completely flat everywhere. But it would probably get boring fast. saddood;

Sometimes, I imagine myself standing in a huge field and i think that the image is pretty cool. Wheat as far as the eye can see, and then right in the middle is me.

I think it can actually be cool (for the time it takes to drive through at least), on nice sunny days the scattered clouds look like they're on top of a giant dome stretched from horizon to horizon. see why they call it 'BIg SKY'

so to support your point about east coast slitism
am watching a D.C. hockey broadcast and the commentators were talking about how odd the standings are right now, calling it the 'November apocalypse' and the 'Parody NHL' because Minnesota is on top and Penguins, Capitals, Stars have all lost multiple games in a row ... has this person ever been to minnesota? baddood;
no surprise that this comes up most often when takling about the weather and sports
Minnesota used to come up when talking about railroads and beer. Milwaukee alone has fallen so very far. >.<
